There were reports that talks with Bulgaria midfielder Petrov, whose current deal ends in 18 months, could stall following Keane's arrival.
But Lawwell said: "That will have absolutely no affect at all.
"We believe they are going pretty well at the moment. It is still our highest priority to get Stilian to stay here."
