Marshall top young player
David Marshall with his Bank of Scotland award
Marshall is proud of his first Bank of Scotland award
Celtic goalkeeper David Marshall has been named top young player for March in the Scottish Premier League.

And he admits that he is still coming to terms with his sudden rise to fame.

"A couple of months ago I wouldn't have even dreamed about getting that award," said Marshall, who starred against Barcelona and Rangers. "It's great.

"For a young player, it is a great honour. But I am under no illusions that I have not done anything yet and I will still need to work hard."

Marshall has been impressive since taking over from Rab Douglas for Celtic and there has been talk of him also deposing his club-mate with the international side.

"I have got to wake up some days which is unbelievable," said the 19-year-old. "But I get on with it because it is a job at the end of the day."

Marshall is in no rush to break into the Scotland side and is happy to bide his time, especially after team-mate John Kennedy's first cap became a nightmare following a knee ligament injury on Wednesday.

"I have been lucky enough to be involved with the Under-21s for a recent game," he said.

"I want to just keep playing and Rab is the first choice in Scotland and rightly so.

"There are other young keepers there at the moment. Paul Gallacher did really well and there's also Craig Gordon.

"I've only played five or six games, so it's very early to be speaking about a Scotland call."

Kennedy could be out for a year and Marshall said: "I haven't had chance to speak to him.

"I heard the news late last night and I was absolutely devastated."
