Finland Under-21 international Toni Koskela has agreed a six-month deal to join Cardiff City.
But the 21-year-old midfielder, who has agreed terms after a trial period at Ninian Park, cannot join the club until the January transfer window opens.
"It's complicated because he can't play until January," said Cardiff manager Lennie Lawrence.
"But we want him to join us, he wants to come and I we will do everything possible to sort this one out."
Koskela has returned to his native Finland, where he played for FC KooTeePeen last season.
