Gazza eyes Burnley debut
Paul Gascoigne is introduced to the crowd at Turf Moor
Paul Gascoigne cannot wait to make his Burnley debut after sampling the atmosphere at Sunday's 2-1 win over Preston.
Gascoigne signed for the Clarets from Everton on Saturday but was not registered in time to play in the Division One game at Turf Moor. He was introduced to the Burnley fans before the game and received a rapturous reception. And the former England international was hugely impressed with the fans and the performance of his new team-mates. "The fans were outstanding, and I was very pleased with the win," Gascoigne said.
"I've trained with the lads and now I want to get on to the pitch against Bradford on Wednesday, if selected. "Burnley's desire is to get into the Premiership, and it's a great challenge to me - I still think I've got plenty in the tank." The 34-year-old said he was delighted that Everton had beaten Fulham 2-1 in the Premiership on Saturday. "I've got two ambitions," he said. "One is to get this team into the Premiership and the other is to see Everton stay up." Ian Moore and new loan signing David Johnson put Burnley 2-0 ahead against Preston in the first half. Iain Anderson pulled one back for Preston six minutes before the end but the Clarets managed to hold on for a victory that virtually assures them a play-off place.
