Gary Cahill has declared himself fit for Bolton's home league game against Manchester United on Saturday after returning from a seven-week lay-off.

The centre-back, 24, who has not played since 30 January after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his arm, came through a reserve team game on Monday.

He said: "You'd have to ask the boss [Owen Coyle], but I'd like to think that's me finished in the reserves.

"I've proved I'm fit to play 90 minutes so this weekend I'm available."

It was initially feared Cahill might be out for the rest of the season, but he was able to play the whole 90 minutes of the reserves' 3-1 defeat by Manchester City.

Cahill had been in excellent form before the injury, and was regarded as an England World Cup possible.

He was part of England's squad for the World Cup qualifying victory over Kazakhstan in June, 2009 but is yet to win a senior cap.

Last Saturday he was an unused substitute for Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Everton.

Cahill's fellow first-team squad members Ali-Al Habsi, Mark Davies, Danny Shittu and Ricardo Vaz Te were also involved in Monday's reserve game.
