But chairman-elect Andy Gemmell insists that the Scottish First Division club have enough funds to survive until the end of the season.

There had been suggestions that the club presently in administration would go into liquidation over the weekend.

Gemmell admitted that there was still a question mark over an £800,000 deposit due from stadium builder and Ayr United chairman Bill Barr.

Airdrie's whole squad was this week ordered by a sheriff to do community service for a year because the club was unable to afford a fine for a breach of planning regulations.

They have also pulled out of transfer deals because of a lack of cash.

"But we have sufficient funds to see the club through until the end of the season and we'll just need to see what happens after that," said Gemmell.

Much could depend on whether Airdrie win their dogfight with Partick Thistle to win promotion to the Scottish Premier League.

Barr may be waiting to see if the Lanarkshire club will qualify for an injection of cash from the SPL before committing himself to any rescue plan.

Gemmell claims that neither his management consortium, nor administrators KPMG, had been able to get an answer from Barr since December.
