Walter Smith has not yet been directly approached by the Scottish Football Association with a view to taking over from Berti Vogts as Scotland manager.

Smith has overtaken Gordon Strachan as the bookies' favourite to replace Vogts, who it is thought will leave his post in the near future.

But despite newspaper reports to the contrary, BBC Scotland understands that the SFA has not contacted Smith.

The SFA are hoping to schedule a board meeting for the end of this week.
