Platini is considered one the greats of French football

France legend Michel Platini has entered the race for the presidency of Uefa, European football's governing body, it was announced on Thursday.
The 51-year-old football great will challenge incumbent Lennart Johansson, the 76-year-old Swede who has headed Uefa since 1990.
Platini, who won the European Player of the Year title on three occasions, is a member of the Uefa executive committee.
The elections for the presidency will be held in January 2007.
