Napoli on the brink
Napoli's San Paolo Stadium
Napoli have endured a fall from grace since their late 1980s heyday
Former Serie A champions Napoli, once the club of legend Diego Maradona, are set to be declared bankrupt.

Napoli have been refused a licence to play in Serie B because of their reported £46m debts.

The club are set to officially discover their fate on Tuesday when a Naples court announces the decision.

But four companies have already been formed to take over the franchise for football in Naples, suggesting a decision of bankruptcy is inevitable.

Inspired by Maradona, Napoli won Serie A in 1987 and 1990 and the Uefa Cup in 1989.

But in recent seasons, they have struggled in Serie B.
