Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon has joined manager Sir Alex Ferguson in defence of the team and record purchase Juan Sebastien Veron.

Veron has been repeatedly linked with a return to Lazio, from where United bought the midfielder for a British record transfer fee of £28m less than a year ago.

"We are going to look at other ways now of addressing this problem," Kenyon said.

"It has gone on for too long and is undermining everybody, not just Seba, but the team as a whole. That is not acceptable."

Ferguson had launched a furious defence of his team, and in particular Veron, ahead of Wednesday's Premiership title showdown with Arsenal.

Kenyon was reacting to Sunday newspaper reports linking the 27 year-old with a move back to Rome.

Kenyon told the Manchester Evening News, "Seba is a world-class player. He has demonstrated that to us on occasions.

"I have no doubt he will be one of the main players coming out of the World Cup. He is absolute quality.

"What is undermining is the continual focus on him wanting to go and not being happy etc.
