James Hayter followed up his record-breaking midweek hat-trick by netting the winner for Bournemouth.
The striker finished off left-back Warren Cummings' 61st-minute cross to net his 10th goal of the season.
Neil Moss made good stops from Danny Boshell and Scott Vernon of Oldham, while Bournemouth's Warren Feeney and Claus Jorgensen saw shots saved.
Oldham could have levelled late on, but Calvin Zola failed to connect with Jermaine Johnson's cross.
