First division clubs in Belgium and China have failed to sign Zambian players who were there for trials.

Elija Tana and Ian Bakala returned home from Belgian first division side Gent at the weekend without clinching professional contracts.

They have now re-joined their local premier sides Nchanga Rangers and Kabwe Warriors respectively.

But Rangers secretary Jermaine Sikombe said there was still hope for Tana.

"According to the information Elija has given us, the club requested him to go back when the season ends.

"We expect Gent to get back to us to commence negotiations."

China disappoint

And Gent assistant-coach Charles Musonda said the club was still interested in Bakala too.

He picked up an injury while he was in Belgium, which meant he missed crucial training sessions.

But Musonda said he impressed when he was able to play and could get another chance.

Gent chief scout Gilbert De Groote also added there was a possibility Tana could be considered again next season.

Things are looking more settled for former Rangers forward Harry Milanzi.

He is remaining in Belgium for continued trials at Germinal Beerschot.

Four other players who went on trail to a first division club in China are also back home after failing to secure a contract.

Midfielder Misheck Lungu, strikers January Zyambo and Cosmas Banda, and defender Jones Mwewa were not wanted by FC Jiangsu Shuntian.
