Mido is Egypt's most expensive player
|
Egyptian international Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has signed a five-year contract with French side Olympic Marseille.
The deal, worth US$13m, takes the striker from Ajax Amsterdam to southern France, and makes him the most expensive Egyptian player ever.
After two weeks of negotiations, Mido completed the signing at a ceremony in Cairo on Saturday.
Mido's departure from Ajax comes as no surprise after the Egyptian's many rows with the Dutch club's management, including a furious public bust-up with coach Ronald Koeman.
The bitter relationship led Ajax to loan the 20-year-old to Spanish side Celta Vigo in January.
He made an instant impact at Celta, helping them to a European Champions League place at the end of the season.
At Marseille, Mido will play alongside another African, Didier Drogba.
