Egypt mourns at Selim's funeral
The funeral of Saleh Selim
Selim's funeral brought out thousands of mourners
The funeral has taken place of Egypt football legend Saleh Selim, causing the streets of Cairo to come to a standstill as people paid their last respects.

Selim, who died of stomach cancer in a London hospital, was the president of Cairo club Al Ahly for the last two decades and one of the most popular figures in African football history.

He was also one of the most talented players ever to appear for Egypt.

The funeral was attended by thousands of mourners from all over Egypt and from all aspects of Egyptian life.

It was led by Mr Azmi, who was attending as a representative of Egypt's president Hosny Mubarak and the minister of youth and sports.

Legendary achievements

Al Ahly have received thousands of letters from people all over the world expressing their deepest condolences, including an official letter from Caf.

The club announced that it is in an official period of mourning, and even Ahly's fiercest rival Zamalek have announced their grief.

The Egyptian Football Federation have declared that the Egyptian local league will be this year be named after Selim in memory of his legendary achievements.

Ahly players have also expressed their sorrow, and will wear black strips in all their matches until the end of the year.
