I'm off to watch the last 68 minutes of Real Madrid 1-2 Villarreal - looks like a belter. 1819: Breaking news: The Football Association has opened an investigation after Liverpool winger Ryan Babel posted a digitally altered picture on Twitter of referee Howard Webb wearing a Manchester United shirt.

It was something like us back to their best. It came at a nice time for us, but no disrespect to Ipswich. It's a long old season and I've got half the season now to try and contribute."

BBC Radio 5 live's Craig Burley: "I think Roberto Mancini will be frustrated but Leicester played really, really well and I think he will understand that. Joe Hart made a mistake but he's only made a couple this season so they're a bit unlucky in that way, but there were no big-time Charlies, they rolled their sleeves up and put in a proper performance today. From what I've seen today, Leicester are more than half-decent. I liked the look of them a lot."

1754: ... The visitors are denied by an offside flag and Bruno Berner goes down with cramp, which might be the last bit of action we have. Brilliant Cup tie, though, it must be said.

1753: Bruno Berner fouls Nigel de Jong and Man City have a free-kick 45 yards out, it's mixer time...

1752: James Milner clips a ball over the top of the Leicester defence for Carlos Tevez, but the Argentine is foiled by another decent Chris Weale save after the keeper came quickly off his line.

1751: Into stoppage time at the Walkers and we're going to have three minutes. Is that long enough for one of these teams to find a winner?

1750: Man City have a couple of corners, but Sol Bamba heads the first one wide and James Milner gets the second one a bit askew. Think they might both settle for the replay at this point.

1748: Yuki Abe has a bit of space 25 yards out to hit another shot for Leicester, but he gets it wrong and the ball slices off the outside of his right foot and well wide.

1747: Five minutes of normal time left in Leicester 2-2 Man City. "Still don't think City will win the league," says Craig Burley on BBC Radio 5 live.

1745: Leicester throw on giant striker Steve Howard for Darius Vassell, who has had a very decent afternoon against his old club. The aerial threat just increased so City better beware.

A sweeping move up the field catches Leicester cold - James Milner takes it down the left, he finds Carlos Tevez inside the box and the Argentine neatly turns it back to Nigel de Jong, who, eight yards out, is foiled by a fine low save from Chris Weale in the Leicester goal. A Weale-y good save, you might say.

1740: Martyn Waghorn comes on for Lloyd Dyer for Leicester. Just over 10 minutes of normal time left - are we going to get a winner?

1739: Cor blimey, Man City just cannot get near the Leicester players in the air. Sol Bamba gets up from another corner to head goalwards, this time James Milner nodding his effort off the line. The Foxes have terrorised them aerially today.

1737: Roberto Mancini barks out some furious instructions from the touchline - he knows his team are struggling here. Carlos Tevez tries to slot Nigel de Jong through, but it's over-hit. Leicester are about to bring on Martyn Waghorn.

1735: Manchester City bring on Pablo Zabaleta for the wildly ineffective Jo. What a waste of the shop window that was.

1731: Leicester are on top now and they look the likelier to get the winner. Ritchie Wellens draws a foul from Nigel de Jong on the left - it's right on the edge of the box, but good decision from referee Mike Dean to award a free-kick, which Paul Gallagher promptly blasts into the City wall.

1728: Really strange one from Joe Hart, that. He had a chance to make up for his initial mistake, but seemed to almost pull out of the challenge with Andy King. He did hold his hands up straight away to apologise to his team-mates, which was a nice touch.

Craig Burley on BBC Radio 5 live: "Mark it in your diaries folks - third round FA Cup in 2011 - a mistake from Joe Hart. There was a bit of pressure in the box, but that's poor from him. He doesn't make many bloopers."

Leicester goal: Cracking Cup tie, this one. It's had a bit of everything - and now it's got a monumental mistake from City keeper Joe Hart, who doesn't make them very often. Paul Gallagher curls over an inswinging cross from the left and it bounces in front of Hart, who fails to grasp it and then as he goes for the rebound, Andy King gets there first to bundle home from inside the six-yard box.

1723: Man City seem happy to pass the ball around and take the sting out of Leicester, who are struggling to get on the ball as much as they'd like. One long spell ends with James Milner firing goalwards from outside the box, but it's a routine save for Chris Weale.

1719: Can't help but think that Liverpool's Ryan Babel might be in a bit of trouble - he's tweeted a link of a picture of referee Howard Webb wearing a Man United shirt, as well as his earlier comment, below. "Twitticide", says one of my colleagues. I'd have to agree.

1716: Chance. What a chance. A Leicester corner from the right is poorly defended by the visitors - Jack Hobbs has a clean run at the ball but the defender can only head over from about eight yards. Got to hit the target, son.

1715: Haha. The ball falls for Roberto Mancini on the touchline and he completely mis-controls the ball. He turns round smiling and shares a joke with Sven-Goran Eriksson, who he used to play for in Italy.

1713: Leicester are doing all right, you know. I definitely wouldn't put it past them getting back on level terms - and the supporters are making a very decent amount of noise at the Walkers Stadium at the moment.

Chelsea goal: It's two in a minute for Frank Lampard, this one a little bit closer to goal but every bit as devastating, this time after great work from Branislav Ivanovic. Got to feel a bit sorry for Ipswich caretaker boss Ian 'Charlie' McParland too, I'd have thought.

1642: Another Leicester corner - and another header from Sol Bamba. Shaun Wright-Phillips bravely clears close to the Man City line - and takes an accidental kick in the head from Darius Vassell for his troubles.

1641: Please refresh: No, Chelsea aren't beating Leciester. You knew that, right?

Chelsea goal: They've gone crazy, Chelsea. Frank Lampard scores his first goal of the game, smashing in from the edge of the penalty area. Poor, poor Marton Fulop in the Ipswich goal.

1637: Leicester are so close to going 2-1 up. A corner from the right is met with another thumping header by Sol Bamba and Joe Hart shows great reaction to stick his hands up and prevent it going in. The rebound falls for Bamba again, but this time he can't get any power on the header and Hart catches comfortably.

1635: Man City are on top now, but there's not too much to choose between the two teams on a pitch that is cutting up badly. Andy King tries to slip in Darius Vassell, but City clear their lines and then moments later Yuki Abe hits a left-foot crackerjack from 25 yards that Joe Hart does superbly to tip around the right-hand post.

1633: Man City are starting to look dangerous every time they go forward and an Aleksandar Kolarov cross falls for Carlos Tevez on the edge of the Leicester box - but they striker is leaning back and on the spin and can only spank a left-foot effort way over.

1629: The match is petering out at Stamford Bridge. Probably about 20 minutes to go and the Premier League side continue to lead 5-0. Good confidence boost for them after recent events, for sure. At Leicester, Sol Bamba heads wide after a Leicester free-kick is pumped into the Man City box.

1627: The Man City fans in Leicester turn their collective backs and wave their black-and-red scarves above their heads - it's a tribute to City legend Neil Young, who scored in the 24th minute of their FA Cup final win against Leicester in 1969. He has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Man City goal: We're all square at the Walkers. James Milner produces some genuine quality, playing a one-two with Carlos Tevez down the inside right channel, dummying inside Sol Bamba and hitting a fine, low left-foot shot into the corner of Chris Weale's net from 16 yards. Top goal.

1624: According to Infostrada Sports, Chelsea are about to reach the FA Cup fourth round for the 14th consecutive season. Only Arsenal have a longer running streak (15). The longest run ever is 24, which Manchester United put together from 1985-2009.

1614: Edin Dzeko is in the crowd at the Walkers Stadium, fresh from his £30m-odd move to Manchester City from German side Wolfsburg. He might not get a chance to play in the FA Cup until 2012 at this rate.

Chelsea goal: Men against boys. Daniel Sturridge gets his second of the game and the hosts are just scoring at will. This time the striker turns the ball back on to his right foot and thumps the ball past poor Marton Fulop in the Ipswich goal. Oh dear.

Former Man City striker Darius Vassell is in the Leicester line-up. Man City make five changes from the team that drew at Arsenal on Wednesday, with only Joe Hart, Kolo Toure, James Milner, Carlos Tevez and Jo retaining their places."

Chelsea goal: That might be that at Stamford Bridge as the Premier League team show their quality. This one is down to a moment of individual brilliance, as Daniel Sturridge back-heels into the Tractor Boys' net from six yards. Cracking stuff.

1534: GOAL Chelsea 2-0 Ipswich (Sturridge)

Chelsea goal: The Blues take the lead their dominance has deserved, and it's largely down to Nicolas Anelka. A lovely passing move ends with the Frenchman shooting goalwards and Marton Fulop gets something on it, it's going over the line anyway but Salomon Kalou makes sure from point-blank range.

Paul Fletcher reports: "Watch out for plenty of Man City fans - and Roberto Mancini - wearing red and black scarves today. These colours were worn by City when they won the 1969 FA Cup. Neil Young scored the only goal in that match as City defeated Leicester to win the trophy. Young has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and the red and black scarf is a tribute to him."

Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov: "Of course it was a penalty. There was contact, enough to make me lose my balance and make me lose my balance. People who know me know I don't go down that easily. I thought their keeper was the best player, but one goal was enough in the end."

1530: It is mostly all Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Nicolas Anelka, who has already forced a couple of decent saves from Ipswich keeper Marton Fulop, looking to make the most of his return to the starting line-up. At the other end, Petr Cech has been called into action just once, saving a Jason Scotland shot.

Les Roopanarine reports: "Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti begins his bid to mount a successful FA Cup defence with a blend of youth and experience. The Blues start without Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, and Florent Malouda, all of whom are on the bench, while Ashley Cole misses out altogether. That means starting places for Josh McEachran, Patrick Van Aanholt and Daniel Sturridge, and the chance for Nicolas Anelka to spearhead a three-pronged attacking line. Ipswich begin life without Roy Keane by making five changes, with Carlos Edwards, Jason Scotland, Darren O'Dea, Jaime Peters and Colin Healy all set to start."

1454: Manchester United bring Brazilian midfielder Anderson on for Darren Fletcher. We're into the last half hour and it remains Man United 1-0 Liverpool.

1453: Ryan Babel picks the ball up 30 yards out and slams a sweet left-foot shot goalwards, at least forcing a low save from Tomasz Kuszczak. The Liverpool supporters have not stopped singing, good work. Can their team nick something at Old Trafford? Plenty of time left.

1452: Double change for Liverpool, with Jonjo Shelvey and Ryan Babel on in place of Maxi Rodrigues and Raul Meireles.

1450: Half-chance for Liverpool. Martin Kelly's cross from the right is nodded into the path of Fernando Torres by Dirk Kuyt, but the Spaniard's crisply struck shot is blocked by Rio Ferdinand.

Spurs goal: Boot-filling time. Jermaine Defoe dances through Charlton defenders, again, with lovely footwork in the box before trying to feed Luka Modric. Following that failed attempt the England man snappily converts a rebound after forcing Rob Elliot to save in vain.

1448: GOAL Tottenham 3-0 Charlton (Defoe)

1447: Liverpool have offered nothing in the second half. United want a second to be comfortable and after Ryan Giggs crosses, Pepe Reina's half-punch falls for Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgarian hitting a half-volley over and wide.

Spurs goal: That could be it for the League One side at White Hart Lane. Jermain Defoe scores against the club he started with, driving forward from the left, racing past a couple of defenders and slotting past Rob Elliot from an angle.

1445: GOAL Tottenham 2-0 Charlton (Defoe)

1445: Luka Modric, on for Wilson Palacios during the interval, has already been superb for Tottenham. But - after working some typical magic - the Tottenham midfielder screws a shot just wide of Charlton's goal. Jermain Defoe then gets the ball stuck under his feet and fails to test Rob Elliot.

1442: Raul Meireles lets fly from 40 yards and it only just lands inside Old Trafford. Woeful effort, Liverpool must use the ball better than that in the second half.

1441: Javier Hernandez fizzes in a cross from the left and Fabio Aurelio heads it back to Pepe Reina - he got a fair bit of power on it, could've been embarrassing for the defender. Moments ago Patrice Evra went down in the Liverpool box, but that was never a penalty.

1440: You'd fancy the Little Pea from there. Dimitar Berbatov controls the ball immaculately on the edge of the Liverpool box and tees up Darren Fletcher to cross down the right - his ball in finds Javier Hernandez eight yards out, but he glances a header wide.

Paul Fletcher reports: "The last time these two teams met was a Premier League fixture in April 2004. Since then Sven-Goran Eriksson has come and gone as manager of Manchester City and is now in charge at Leicester. Eriksson managed current Man City boss Roberto Mancini for eight years at Sampdoria and Lazio before the striker arrived in England for a brief spell at, you guessed it, Leicester. The big-spending Premier League side should defeat their Championship opponents. But should is often a redundant word in the FA Cup."

Chelsea v Ipswich scene-setter:
Les Roopanarine reports: "Forget Chelsea's recent Premier League setbacks, if the holders were to lose against Ipswich this afternoon, it would be one of the worst shocks seen at Stamford Bridge since John Dempsey's combover. The Blues have gone 13 games unbeaten in the Cup, and the chance of masterminding a third successive trophy win - a feat last accomplished by Blackburn in 1886 - should offer a welcome change of focus for embattled club manager Carlo Ancelotti. Ipswich, who parted company with manager Roy Keane this week, will be seeking a first victory in SW6 since 1979."

1423: Dirk Kuyt is in deep discussions with referee Howard Webb as the players walk off the pitch at Old Trafford. They aren't talking about the World Cup final. Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 live reckons Liverpool have still got a chance, but it's a "very, very slim one".

1421: Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool
Chris Bevan's half-time snapshot: "If conceding that early penalty was a set-back for Liverpool, Steven Gerrard's red card was a disaster. The Reds were just starting to establish a platform in midfield too, but it's back to square one for Kenny Dalglish - who must be wondering what he has let himself in for. Chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' from United fans won't improve his mood."

1420: That was almost game over. Ryan Giggs floats over a corner from the right and Jonny Evans gets there first, thumping a header against Pepe Reina's right-hand post. Good Evans.

1418: Nani disagrees with the referee's decision and throws all manner of toys out of his pram. Good strop from the Portuguese. Closing in on the interval at Old Trafford, but we'll have three minutes of stoppage time in this crazy first half.

Chris Whyatt's half-time snapshot: "Debutant Spurs winger Andros Townsend [not a joke name] catching the eye as Charlton hold their own in bright London derby."

1414: Maxi smashes in a shot from 30 yards that flies a little over the Man United crossbar. The visitors aren't out of this yet, don't think that for a minute.

From hawick on 606: "Wild challenge. Borderline as to the colour but he stupidly gave the ref a choice. Might say the same on the penalty, but for my money Webb did get them both right. Not advisable play at Old Trafford!"

1410: Nani gets a shot in after bursting between two players, but it's saved by Pepe Reina. Up the other end and Dirk Kuyt tries his luck from 25 yards, but it's wide. Kenny Dalglish had a look at Steven Gerrard's tackle on the tv screen by his dugout, and didn't seem too dismayed.

Former Charlton player Matt Holland on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Slow and deliberate build-up from Tottenham, they need to start switching the play quicker if they want to feed Defoe and Pavlyuchenko better. The visitors are playing very narrow in midfield and they need to expose that. Charlton are growing in confidence as this game goes on."

1407: Steven Gerrard threw the armband to Dirk Kuyt as he walked off. The United fans are chanting "You're getting sacked in the morning" to Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool were on top when that happened. Who writes these scripts?

Red card: Why? Whether it is a straight red or not, why did Steven Gerrard do that? The Liverpool skipper gives his team a mountain to climb, going in for a challenge with Michael Carrick and it appears to be two-footed, a little bit off the floor... look, everyone's going to have a different opinion, but in the circumstances Gerrard is a silly boy for risking it. Howard Webb sends him off and the visitors are in deep trouble now.

1404: SENDING OFF Steven Gerrard, Liverpool

1401: Dirk Kuyt tries to bully his way into the area down the Liverpool right and he is tackled, the ball breaking to Steven Gerrard on the corner of the 18-yard box, the captain's shot all along the floor comfortably saved by Tomasz Kuszczak. Better team at the minute, Liverpool.

1400: Liverpool are building up nicely from the back, playing some decent stuff, but it is breaking down in the final third - and that is in part due to the ineffectiveness of Fernando Torres, who is really struggling to find a team-mate with a pass at the moment.

1357: Feels a bit like 0-0 at Old Trafford, with both teams still feeling each other out. Steven Gerrard almost turns dangerously towards his own goal, but manages to find Pepe Reina who clears. Fernando Torres looks like a man who can't remember why he used to be good at football.

1354: Christian Dailly saves Charlton by brilliantly blocking a shot from Jermain Defoe, who was played in nicely by in-form strike buddy Roman Pavlyuchenko. Entertaining, end-to-end stuff so far.

From Joe, Canterbury, on text: "Personally, I have no problem with players going down under contact from a foul because referees tend not to give fouls if the player stays on his feet. However, there was minimal contact and Berbatov could have carried on easily. Dive."

1352: Good stuff down the right from Liverpool and they get Martin Kelly to the byeline - the youngster's cross is cleared away by the perfectly positioned Rio Ferdinand with Fernando Torres loitering. Steven Gerrard then spoons a 30-yarder miles over.

1351: Liverpool have done pretty well since that early hammer blow, easing their way into the game and trying to build from the back. They haven't created any clear chances yet, but Maxi fires in a shot from an angle on the right that Tomasz Kuszczak punches away.

BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at Old Trafford: "Safe to say that was not the start Kenny Dalglish was looking for but it has not stopped the Liverpool fans from chanting his name and he keeps acknowledging them too. Those same supporters unfurled a banner before kick-off which read 'Scousers rule and don't you forget it'. No sign of it at the moment though."

1345: Typically well-hit dipping effort from Nico Kranjcar at Tottenham, but Charlton keeper Rob Elliot lets it fly just over his bar. Spurs taking early control.

1344: Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 live reckons the pitch is looking a bit cut up, agreeing with the comments Arsene Wenger made the other day. There's still absolutely nothing happening at OT.

1341: More importantly, how will Liverpool respond? Under Roy Hodgson you would have seriously worried for them, but now, with Kenny Dalglish on the bench, can they recover? Since the penalty, not much has happened, except for a booking for Darren Fletcher.

1339: It'd be fair to say a lot of you think Dimitar Berbatov dived to win that penalty. Game of opinions etc etc.

1337: Andros Townsend, making his Spurs debut on the left wing, has already impressed a sold-out White Hart Lane. His early whipped cross just evaded his team-mates in the box before a cheeky back-heel flick nearly set Jermain Defoe free on goal.

1335: Space for Liverpool as Dirk Kuyt feeds Fernando Torres on the edge of the box, but he takes a touch and is closed down and can only shoot tamely wide.

Man Utd goal: Oh King Kenny. He looks a bit like Roy Hodgson did a few days ago already. Dimitar Berbatov gets into the Liverpool box down the right and Daniel Agger clips the Bulgarian's ankle with his challenge - it's a penalty, with about 35 seconds on the clock. Ryan Giggs steps up and slams the spot-kick into the corner. My word.

1332: The English Superclasico is under way - Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard kick off and this is Manchester United v Liverpool.

1331: Infostrada Sports reckon Liverpool have a 9% chance of winning at Old Trafford today. This would be the second biggest shock of the third round to date, with only Notts County's victory at Sunderland deemed less likely (7%).

1330: Under way at Tottenham.

1329: Kenny Dalglish walks out with Sir Alex Ferguson. There's a little part of me that still can't quite believe this is happening. You?

1328: One word to sum up the atmosphere at Old Trafford: electric. The teams, led by Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard, emerge from the tunnel. We're very, very close.

Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: "I didn't expect Kenny to resurface. But Liverpool see it as the way ahead and... well, it's their club. It's always going to be a tough game, derby game, no introduction needed and everyone knows what it means. We'll try to play as we always do. Rooney and Vidic didn't quite make it, there's no point risking Wayne and it's too early for Nemanja. It's the biggest rivalry and will always be so."

That was 22 February, 1991. Since then, the man FourFourTwo named the greatest striker British football has seen since the Second World War has had spells as boss at Blackburn, Newcastle and Celtic. This is a quite remarkable homecoming for the man Liverpool fans call 'King Kenny'.

1204: No, punters. No. I've been playing mind games with you. The year is 2011, which is probably a good thing as that means I'm not six years old and the internet has in fact been invented, thereby allowing us all to get stuck into another cracking day of FA Cup third round action. Best weekend of the calendar? Well it's certainly the most romantic, as Stevenage, Notts County, Burton Albion and Leyton Orient would tell anyone who cares to listen. I'm steadfastly refusing to acknowledge Southampton beating Blackpool as a shock, however, because in my heart I'll always be a little bit 1987.

1200: I've been sleeping so soundly in my post-Ashes glow that I'm utterly confused as to what year it is. England have just smashed the Aussies in their own backyard, Kenny Dalglish is the manager of Liverpool and preparing to face Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, FA Cup shocks are all the rage and hooliganism has left its ugly mark on the game once more.
