2212: Before I bid you farewell for the evening, I will give you a quick round-up of the rest of this evening's Champions League action. Lyon's Spurs-style second-half fightback from 4-0 down against Benfica ended in a Spurs-style 4-3 defeat but, elsewhere in Group B, Schalke failed to capitalise after being held by Hapoel Tel-Aviv. In Group D, there was frustration for Barcelona, who failed to get the win they needed against FC Copenhagen to reach the last 16. Still, Barca are in the box-seat, just ahead of the Danish side, because earlier Rubin Kazan and Panathinaikos had battled out a goalless draw.

2207: Whatever you think of Bursaspor (and I think they are pretty poor), you have to give credit to United tonight too. They were too cute, too clever and too darn good for the Turkish champions in front of a very hostile crowd. Check out the Gabriel Obertan goal that rounded off their win tonight if you get a chance too - an absolute corker.

Gareth Bale, sorry I mean Spurs, are top with a superior head-to-head record over Inter Milan. If Harry Redknapp's side beat Werder Bremen in their next match, they are definitely into the last 16.

2105: He's at it again you know. Gareth Bale turns Maicon inside out as he gets down the by-line and it takes an eagle-eyed extra official to spot that the ball went a foot out of play before he crossed for Peter Crouch to bundle home from close range. It was the right decision as well.

Tottenham goal: Just one word to describe Gareth Bale at the moment: Sensational. Yet again, he tears down the left, leaving Inter defenders trailing in his wake before sending over a perfect cross for Peter Crouch to turn in at the far post. Amazing stuff, and Spurs have breathing space.

2100: Rangers need an equaliser in Spain but they are on the back foot again early in the second half and it is Juan Mata pulling the strings for Valencia. The mercurial midfielder finds Aritz Aduriz who brings a full-stretch save with a header from Allan McGregor.

2057: By the way, Tottenham are top of Group A as things stand because of their superior (on away goals) record over Inter. More importantly, they would be four points clear of FC Twente and Werder Bremen, and qualification for the last 16 would be very much in their own hands.

2056: Spurs don't know how to sit back, do they? Inter keeper Luca Castellazzi tips over a looping Peter Crouch header as the home side come forward again. There have been 26 goals in Tottenham's first five-and-a-half Champions League games... I've got a feeling there might be more to come.

2054: Another decent chance for Tottenham. Inter keeper Luca Castellazzi is in no-mans land after failing to collect a ball hoisted into the box and Gareth Bale, thinking quickly, is unlucky to see his shot drop a fraction wide after improvising with a lob with his back to goal.

Man Utd goal: Michael Carrick has his critics among the United fans, but he has just played a big part in helping his side take the lead in Turkey. Carrick's precise pass finds Darren Fletcher in space on the right of the area, and the Scot takes a touch before rifling home a fierce low shot into the opposite corner of the net. He marks his 50th Champions League appearance with his second goal in the competition - and it was a quality finish.

2050: Rangers and Valencia are back under way too. Work to do for Walter Smith's side in Spain.

2047: And we have restarted in Turkey too. Apparently the reason Nani came off earlier was a groin injury - he is a doubt for Man Utd's game against Wolves on Saturday.

2046: As feared, Rafael van der Vaart's night is over. Jermaine Jenas is on instead and the second half has just started.

2044: Ah. I'm hearing that Rafael van der Vaart is struggling with a hamstring injury and might not be able to continue for Tottenham. I suppose we will find out soon enough, when the teams emerge for the second half.

Inter Milan and Lyon are both losing, and Barcelona are being held in Copenhagen. You wouldn't call this group stage predictable, would you? Well, I wouldn't anyway.

2038: Here's a bit more info on what is happening in Leagues One and Two: Peterborough and Huddersfield, Brighton's two closest rivals are doing their best to keep pace with the League One leaders. Both the Posh and the Terriers lead 2-0 against Walsall and Sheffield Wednesday, respectively, but will still be some way behind the Seagulls at the end of play. In League Two, table-toppers Chesterfield are cruising against Accrington, 3-1 the Spireites lead. Not so rosy for bottom side Barnet, though, they trail 2-0 at home to Stevenage.

2023: Man Utd have the ball in the net in Turkey, but it is rightly disallowed. After a neat passing move, Paul Scholes bursts into the area to slot home... but he handled as he controlled the ball. Where is Mark Clattenburg when you need him?

Valencia goal: It had been coming. Rangers, who had witheld a lot of pressure, fail to deal with a corner and the ball drops to Roberto Soldado, who squeezes his shot past a defender at the near post. 2008: Edwin van der Sar comes to Manchester United's rescue in Turkey. His defence are caught napping as Bursaspor break forward, with Turgay Bahadir running through. He is one-on-one with the 40-year-old but cannot beat him - the ball hits his shoulder and flies over.

Tottenham goal: Rafael van der Vaart scored it, but Luka Modric definitely made it... skipping past one defender before slipping the Dutchman free with a pass that split Javier Zanetti and Lucio. Van der Vaart, who was just onside, supplied a cool finish, rifling the ball past Luca Castellazzi.

2000: Bad news for people who ventured out to the Lancashire derby between Rochdale and Oldham. It has been abandoned after 10 minutes because of adverse weather conditions... meaning rain, I think... unless it is raining frogs or something?

1957: Ah, here's a familar scene... Gareth Bale dances past Maicon down the left. Normally that ends with a goal, but not this time. The Welshman's cross is too near stand-in Inter keeper Luca Castellazzi.

1956: And here come Rangers! Steven Naismith smashes the post with a 25-yard drive after cutting in from the left flank. Walter Smith's side are inches from going in front in Valencia, and this is a positive start for the visitors.

1954: More chances to tell you about. Luka Modric has a pop for Spurs after making space in the area with a neat step-over. And, in Turkey, Dimitar Berbatov meets Patrice Evra's cross but can not get enough power behind his header to beat Bursaspor keeper Dimitar Ivankov.

1953: Inter are first to threaten, with a sizzling shot by Samuel Eto'o from the edge of the area that flies a whisker wide. I don't think Carlo Cudicini would have got to that if it had been on target. It wasn't though, obviously.

1927: I've got some good news for Tottenham fans already, and the game hasn't even started at White Hart Lane yet. Yes, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has escaped FA punishment for describing Nani's (somewhat controversial) goal against his side on Saturday as a farce. Harry had threatened to stop doing post-match interviews if he faced any sanctions and, seeing as he regularly comes out with gems like "my missus could have scored that one" (when Darren Bent missed a glorious chance in January 2009), it is probably good news for us all - not to mention common sense of course.

Rangers are boosted by the news that midfielder Maurice Edu has been passed fit and is able to start the match, though fellow injury doubt Vladimir Weiss failed to make the squad. Edu's inclusion allows Smith to name the same starting XI who earned a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford in their Group C opener.

1919: There was talk of a possible delay to kick-off at White Hart Lane because of the tube strike that has just started in London, but I'm told the game will start at 1945 GMT as planned.

Bursasspor v Man Utd
Chris Whyatt reports: "Wily Euro-voyagers United take a dauntingly impressive Champions League record to the mountains of north-west Turkey: just one defeat in their last 18 away games. The 'world giants', as Bursaspor coach Ertugrul Saglam describes them, are missing some top names but Sir Alex Ferguson would still wager that Paul Scholes and co have enough wit to wangle a win against the point-less and goal-less Turkish champions. If he's right, the three points will virtually guarantee entry into the last 16 knockout."

Tottenham v Inter Milan
BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty reports: "Great anticipation in the streets around White Hart Lane as Spurs prepare for the game that was ringed on every calendar once the Champions League draw was made - the visit of holders Inter Milan. Rafael Benitez's side showed their quality ripping Spurs apart in the first-half in the San Siro a couple of weeks ago, but Gareth Bale's second half hat-trick in their 4-3 defeat will give Harry Redknapp hope that they can trouble Inter on their own territory."

1853: Even if you're not a Spurs fan, there is plenty else going on tonight, though. Let's start in Group C, where Manchester United can all but secure their progress to the knockout stages with a win in Turkey over Bursaspor, while Rangers will look to give their bid to join them a boost as they travel to Spain to take on Valencia.

1850: Enough about Gareth Bale, for now at least. Let's get back to reality: An Inter win will book their place in the last 16, and leave Spurs fans looking nervously at the outcome of FC Twente v Werder Bremen to try to work out what result will help them secure second spot in Group A (I think it's probably a draw).

1848: Yep, poor old Maicon - named as the best right-back in the Champions League last season - was made to look a little bit silly by Gareth Bale as Spurs launched an ultimately futile fight-back in what was a pretty remarkable Group A meeting on 20 October. To be honest, he didn't get an easy time of it the last time he came to White Hart Lane either. In September 2006, I watched him play in an international friendly against Wales, when he had Bale AND Ryan Giggs to contend with down the left. Not a bad combination, that one.

1845 GMT: Evening all. Something tells me you're looking forward to tonight's Champions League clash between Tottenham and reigning European champions Inter Milan? Me too... but I do know one man who definitely isn't.
