1804: Time to go. My fingers are literally (not literally) about to drop off. Many, many thanks for your company through this epic day of football. Congratulations Manchester United. World Club Cup, Carling Cup down, Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup to go. Very hard luck Spurs. See you on Tuesday for some midweek Premier League tomfoolery.

1801: And of course, Manchester United's win opens up another spot in the Europa League (Uefa Cup) for a Premier League side. Losing Carling Cup finalists don't qualify - which will please Harry Redknapp, who isn't such a fan anyway. Good news for the likes of Everton and Arsenal.

1759: Harry Redknapp says "Middlesbrough must be sitting at home laughing" as he bemoans fatigue and injuries among his squad. Spurs, two points above the relegation zone, host Boro in a crucial game on Wednesday.

1757: "I thought we were terrific. Penalties are a lottery. I looked and we weren't that confident with our penalty-takers really. That's how it goes. I felt we didn't deserve to lose. We were fantastic."

1756: There go the champagne corks and Fergie looks none too pleased to be hit by some stray bubbly.

1754: "Glory Glory Man United" rings out at Wembley. Next up for United, a trip to Newcastle on Wednesday where victory will give them a 10-point lead in the Premier League.

1752: A smiling Wayne Rooney looks on like a proud dad as the United's squad take turns to lift the trophy. But the biggest cheer is reserved for Sir Alex Ferguson, who wins the League Cup for the third time. He is now one behind record-holder Brian Clough and level with Bob Paisley and George Graham.

1751: Captain for the day Rio Ferdinand leads his players up, kisses the trophy once and lifts it above his head.

1751: "Anderson buries that final penalty and the celebrations start - rather belatedly as some United players seem unsure that they are actually victorious. Tough on Spurs after a game in which both sides were equally matched, denying them a repeat of last year's triumph - but it is a real glory day for United keeper Ben Foster, who will have impressed watching England coach Fabio Capello. United have the Carling Cup in the bag - and can now turn their attentions to the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League after an almost perfect weekend."

1749: Number two of five possible trophies for Manchester United, but it didn't come easy. For the second Carling Cup final in a row, Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara is in tears. Last year, he missed out on the squad. This year, he misses a penalty.

1738: Manchester United win the toss to decide which end the penalties are taken at, and it looks like Rio Ferdinand has also won the toss to decide who goes first. It will be Ryan Giggs.

1737: Heurelho Gomes is all smiles as he receives a few good-luck handshakes from his team-mates. The Brazilian gives United counterpart Ben Foster a brief hug before they take their positions. Foster urges the United fans to ramp up the noise.

1734: I can hardly bear the tension so I can only imagine what it's like on the pitch. These two teams have never faced each other in a shoot-out. I really don't know who my money's on.

1732: "Two exhausted sides, both now almost waiting for the last refuge of penalties after Darren Bent and Patrice Evra come desperately close to scoring the one goal that will settle it. It has not been a game to savour, but no-one can doubt the endeavour on show from both Spurs and United."

1725: Michael Dawson is back on now and looks to have shaken off the cramp - for now.

1723: Michael Dawson is eventually hauled to his feet but he is struggling big time. The stretcher comes on, but he does manage to hobble off the pitch. Spurs don't have any subs left so he'll be sent back on - whatever state he's in.

1721: Carlos Tevez drives a shot over from the edge of the box. Tottenham defender Michael Dawson is down with cramp.

1718: And now Paul Scholes gets his customary yellow card for a mistimed tackle - on Gareth Bale. David Bentley floats the free-kick onto the roof of the net, with Ben Foster watching it all the way.

1717: Jamie O'Hara's long-range strike is blocked by Paul Scholes but the ball comes straight back to him. His next effort goes miles over the bar.

1710: "Gareth Bale's introduction for Jermaine Jenas looks to be a ploy by Harry Redknapp to offer greater protection to Benoit Assou-Ekotto against the increasing influence of Cristiano Ronaldo. 1654: Unbelievable finishes at both games. Glenn Whelan's last-gasp strike puts a small dent in Villa's Champions League hopes, with the gap between them and Arsenal staying at six points. Stoke stay in the bottom three but they are level on points with Boro in 18th and Blackburn above that.

1645: Patrice Evra goes over clutching his ankle after Luka Modric wins the ball and hardly seems to make any contact with the United left-back. Referee Chris Foy gives United the free-kick anyway. Cristiano Ronaldo hammers it into the wall, leaving Jamie O'Hara rolling about on the turf.

That's a remarkable goal. John Carew has his back to goal as Stiliyan Petrov's hopeful ball comes to the edge of the box but the big striker side-foot-volleys it first time over Steve Simonsen. Carew looks like he can hardly believe it himself as he celebrates.

1638: "Ferguson has clearly taken note of an increased attacking threat from Spurs in the last few minutes, so we have the outstanding central defensive partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic re-united with the Serbian's introduction as a substitute. Vidic will give United greater potency at set pieces, but the Spurs fans inside Wembley are sounding more hopeful in these closing stages."

1626: A moment of huge controversy at Wembley. Cristiano Ronaldo is running across the edge of the box from right to left. He touches the ball on and is brought down by Ledley King. Chris Foy books Ronaldo for diving, infuriating the winger. "That was a stone, cold penalty," remarks Mark Lawrenson on BBC 5 Live.

1624: Jamie O'Hara is coming on for the hapless Roman Pavlyuchenko. He'll play on the left and Luka Modric will support Darren Bent.

1622: John O'Shea - already on a yellow card - is very late on Luka Modric and the Spurs fans react. Chris Foy keeps his cards in his pockets and O'Shea is a lucky, lucky boy.

1621: "Increased tempo from both sides after the break and Ferguson has wasted no time in making the change - and no surprise that it is the youngster Welbeck who is removed. He has had a tough time, and for all his endeavour has not looked like unsettling Ledley King and Michael Dawson. Tevez is now in a central role alone, with Nani and Ronaldo employed on the flanks. 1525: From the corner, the ball comes out to Rio Ferdinand, who nonchalantly controls it on his knee and volleys narrowly over.

1524: Cristiano Ronaldo gives Benoit Assou-Ekotto a head start but still manages to outpace the Spurs left-back and get on the end of Darron Gibson's ball over the top. Cross blocked.

1519: What are you up to Ben Foster? Vedran Corluka finds Aaron Lennon's run on the right and the United keeper comes chasing out of his goal. Completely unnecessary. Lennon squares the ball but Rio Ferdinand manages to get the block in as Roman Pavlyuchenko looks to convert.

1517: What a game this is so far. Very open. Nani cuts in from the left, but Heurelho Gomes pushes his low strike around the post.

1455: Big flames go up at Wembley as Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp lead the teams out at Wembley. It is the first time Manchester United and Spurs have contested a major cup final.

1453: Interesting way of showing the team line-ups at Wembley. Some people wearing black coats walk across the middle of the pitch, each carrying a big sign with a player's name on and a big black balloon above it. I think that's what just happened. It seems unreal now.

1451: Four minutes of added time at Bolton and the first of them is used up by Jonas Gutierrez getting a yellow card for dissent.

1450: First-time shot by Peter Lovenkrands but it's on his wrong foot, and his right-foot effort fizzes wide of the post.

1437: Big, big shout for handball at the Reebok after Jlloyd Samuel throws himself in the way of Fabricio Coloccini's shot. It definitely struck his arm, but it was at very close range. He had his arms out though, so he's lucky to get away with that.

1435: Blackburn climb out of the bottom three after that win at plummeting Hull, sending Boro back in. Phil Brown's side are three points away from the drop zone. West Ham move up to seventh with a deserved victory over Manchester City.

Ricardo Gardner is only just on as a sub and Newcastle don't appear to have noticed. They don't track his run into the area, leaving him free to knock in Matt Taylor's cross with his first touch.

1405: They're back under way ay Bolton. At Upton Park, Felipe Caicedo wastes a golden opportunity draw City level. The Ecuadorian rides a weak Matthew Upson challenge but lashes his shot into the side netting.

1402: GOAL West Ham 1-0 Man City
West Ham get the goal their play has deserved and it's sub Savio who surges at the Man City defence and forces Shay Given to make an athletic save, the ball rebounding for Jack Collison to expertly send the ball over Given and into the City net.

1401: RED CARD Blackburn
Now we're 10 v 10. Morten Gamst Pedersen catches Kamil Zayatte late and that's his second yellow card.

1359: "The Hull match will probably see the end of them in the Premier League. It looks more likely than ever all the promoted teams from last year are going down. It's a shame as Stoke and Hull have made it more interesting. I just cannot see any of the other teams, maybe apart from Newcastle, still struggling in another 5-6 games."

Dean Marney and Morten Gamst Pederson go for an aerial challenge, and as the Hull midfielder gets to his feet, he aims a kick at Pedersen. Referee Martin Atkinson quickly - and predictably - gets out the red card. Pedersen gets a yellow for the initial challenge.

1352: El-Hadji Diouf heads a left-wing cross back across goal for Roque Santa Cruz, whose nods just wide. No sign of a Hull recovery and this would be their 11 league game without a win.

1343: The Hull fans are FURIOUS, and so is Geovanni, as Phil Brown opts to take off the Brazilian. Geovanni turns and claps the home fans, promoting a massive cheer, but then the boos return and the striker sits on the bench and carries on ranting. Phil Brown must be feeling the heat as he stands motionless on the touchline. Nicky Barmby and Daniel Cousin are on, Kevin Kilbane the other player to make way.

1334: Slaloming run by Peter Lovenkrands and he gets the shot away - left-footed of course - but it's a comfortable save for Jussi Jaaskelainen.

1313: After a good five minutes of treatment, Valon Behrami is stretchered off. I will be very surprised if he is back on a football pitch this season. The replay - which is excruciating - shows Behrami getting his studs stuck in the turf as he is falling. Horrible. Could be knee and ankle problems. Savio replaces him.

1311: Very worrying scenes at West Ham where Behrami is being given oxygen. They haven't even started trying to put him on the stretcher.

Blackburn slice the Hull defence open with almost embarrassing ease, Morten Gamst Pedersen touching the ball on for Stephen Warnock's run down the left. He squares for Keith Andrews to tap in Rovers' second in two minutes.

Morten Gamst Pedersen's shot from the edge of the area takes a heavy deflection but Hull keeper Matt Duke should collect. Roque Santa Cruz nips in though, and lays the ball back to Stephen Warnock, who lashes the shot high into the unguarded goal.

1303: Another decent save from Paul Robinson, tipping over Geovanni's header. But the Hull man is offside. Robinson really is proving superb at saving goalbound shots that wouldn't have counted anyway.

1302: Just as they kick off at the Reebok Stadium, the news breaks that Bolton manager Gary Megson has agreed a new rolling contract.

1259: City keeper Shay Given collects at his near post from a well-struck Jack Collison shot.

1257: Out come the players at the Reebok in the 'teams formerly managed by Sam Allardyce' derby. Newcastle posted their first win in six games there last season - under Big Sam.

1255: Hull building a bit of pressure now. Kevin Kilbane is left completely unmarked at the far post as Nathan Doyle's right-wing cross comes over but the ball skips just past him.

Bolton boss Gary Megson makes two changes to the side which beat West Ham last weekend, with former Newcastle player Andy O'Brien and Fabrice Muamba starting. Jonas Gutierrez and Obafemi Martins come in for Newcastle as assistant manager Chris Hughton makes two changes to the side which drew with Everton.

1246: Robinho flicks out a leg to try to divert Vincent Kompany's shot in but Hammers keeper Rob Green pulls off a magnificent save, low to his right. Micah Richards has been limping since that Scott Parker challenge and he can't continue. Felipe Caicedo is on. Pablo Zabaleta goes to right-back.

1245: Bernard Mendy swings a lovely crossfield ball over to Hull team-mate Geovanni but the Brazilian's first touch is horrendous and Paul Robinson can collect.

1243: Scott Parker won't let this lie, chipping away at Mike Dean over that booking. All very silly. Dean eventually calls over Hammers captain Lucas Neill to give him some friendly advice.

Manchester City bring in Nigel de Jong for the suspended Shaun Wright-Phillips in the only change from their Uefa Cup victory on Thursday, while injury-jinxed striker Valeri Bojinov is fit enough to be named on the City bench.

1202: Harry Redknapp and his Tottenham squad are staying at a hotel in Windsor - the same one Portsmouth stayed at before the FA Cup final last year. They've been for a walk down by the river this morning, and Redknapp is now wearing his whistle, complete with a lovely white rose. "This is massive for us," says 'Arry. "There's two competitions we're focused on - the Carling Cup and the Premier League. We want to win a trophy and stay in the league. That's all we've got left now."

Hull make three changes from the team that lost 2-1 at home to Tottenham on Monday, having played almost a reserve team in the FA Cup on Thursday. Blackburn also played a second-string XI as they bowed out of the Cup in midweek, but they make only one change from the team that lost at Manchester United last weekend, with Christopher Samba replacing David Dunn and Stephen Warnock moving into midfield.
