Steve Harmison leads more celebrations for England
|
Steve Harmison has become the first England bowler for more than two decades to lead the Test rankings.
Harmison, who took 17 wickets in the series win over West Indies, has topped the PWC Ratings.
His nine wickets at The Oval saw him go above Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan and South Africa's Shaun Pollock.
England's success in 2004 is reflected particularly in the bowling - all four of their leading bowlers are in the world top 20.
Andrew Flintoff and Ashley Giles have both climbed more than 20 places since May.
Flintoff has also established himself as one of the top three all-rounders in Test cricket.
Kallis and Pollock are still ahead of him in the PwC Test all-rounder index, though Flintoff does top the all-rounder index for one-day cricket.
But the sorry state of West Indies cricket means only two Caribbean batsmen appear in the top 20, with Lara third and Chanderpaul 20th and no bowlers.
