Dawson signs new Yorkshire deal
Richard Dawson
Dawson is hoping for success with Yorkshire after promotion
Off-spinner Richard Dawson has signed a new contract with Yorkshire.

Dawson claimed 27 wickets in Division Two of the County Championship last season and also scored 430 runs at an average of more than 30.

"There was interest from a few counties towards the end of the season, but I had a good chat with (Yorkshire boss) David Byas," said Dawson.

"We discussed the county's plans for next season and he convinced me that it was in my best interests to carry on."

Dawson, who won the last of his seven England caps against Australia in January 2003, is hoping Yorkshire will go on to greater success after securing promotion this season.

"I know Yorkshire are very ambitious and playing in the first division of the county championship next season is something to really look forward to," he said.

"Hopefully we can carry on the momentum we built up last season and also improve on our one-day performances as well."

Eight other Yorkshire playrs have agreed new contracts - 2005 Player of the Season Deon Kruis, Nick Thornicroft, Mark Lawson, Richard Pyrah, Andrew Gale, Joe Sayers, Simon Guy and Tim Bresnan.
