Pietersen made to wait
K Pietersen
Pietersen's game could be well-suited to one-day internationals
Kevin Pietersen will not be available to play for England until the one-day tour of Zimbabwe at the earliest.

The South Africa-born batsman will not complete his four-year qualification until mid-October, his agent Adam Wheatley told BBC Sport.

There had been speculation that the talented 24-year-old would be eligible for selection for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament in September.

But Wheatley said: "We always believed mid-October was more realistic."

The tour of Zimbabwe, which will feature one-day internationals but not Test matches, is expected to take place some time in October.

Wheatley said there could be a discrepancy of a matter of days between the start of the tour and the exact date of Pietersen's qualification.

But he added: "If he becomes eligible four days into the tour, the England and Wales Cricket Board would probably allow him to go."

Pietersen featured on the England A tour of India last winter.

He averages 47.18 in Championship cricket and 43.28 in the Totesport League for Nottinghamshire this season.
