Essex name Gough as vice-captain
D Gough
The coming season will be Gough's second summer at Chelmsford
Darren Gough will start his second season at Essex as the county's new vice-captain as the Chelmsford-based side bid for promotion in 2005.

The appointment of the England and former Yorkshire paceman as Ronnie Irani's deputy follows a team shake-up announced by the club on 1 March.

Graham Gooch is no longer head coach, with Irani assisting on that front.

Gough said: "I had the opportunity to be captain of Yorkshire before I left but this is a big opportunity for me."

The 34-year-old went on: "Coming to Essex has been a good move for me and being made vice-captain is a huge honour.

"I hope that my 15 years of experience in county cricket will have an influence on the rest of the squad at Essex. "

Irani said: "Darren is one of the best players in the world I could have as my right-hand man.

"He is always among the first to offer advice and possesses one of the best cricketing brains in the country."
