Manchester rain saves Notts

The draw which seemed a certainty after Friday's washout duly arrived on another gloomy afternoon in Manchester, when more rain prevented a full day's play.

Peter Martin's first game of the season ended in a five-wicket haul for the right-arm seamer.

He single-handedly removed the talented middle-order of Chris Cairns, Bilal Shafayat and Chris Read.

The tail wagged to ensure Notts would not be embarrassd - they managed just 79 runs fewer than Lancashire's first-innings total.

And in the home team's second innings, Greg Smith earned himself two cheap wickets before the rains came again.

After getting far the better of a draw against champions Surrey at the Oval in the first round of matches, Lancashire are still winless despite impressing in most quarters of the game.
