Veteran Lance Klusener has been handed a reprieve after being included in South Africa's World Cup squad.

The all-rounder, player of the tournament in 1999, has struggled to find form but chipped in with a 50 when he returned against Sri Lanka last month.

Gary Kirsten, who scored a century after being recalled for the final one-day international against Pakistan, also keeps his spot.

But opener Graeme Smith, 21, misses out despite boasting an average of 41.27 in 19 matches since his debut earlier this year.

Allan Donald and Jonty Rhodes are set to become the first South Africans to play in four World Cups, although both have retired from Test cricket.

There is a surprise place for seamer Charl Langeveldt, who has not made an international appearance since South Africa's tour of Australia a year ago.

And, after failing to split Nicky Boje and Robin Peterson, the selectors have included both left-arm spinners in the party.

Langeveldt, Peterson and pace bowler Monde Zondeki are two of the five black players included as per agreement with the South Africa minister of sport.

South Africa are the fourth major nation to name their 15, with West Indies naming Brian Lara in their squad earlier on Sunday.
