Katich makes his move
Simon Katich
Katich suffered a disappointing season with WA
Batsman Simon Katich is to switch state sides next season in the hope of resurrecting his Australian Test career.

Katich, who has been touted as a possible future Australian captain, lost his central contract last month following a disappointing domestic season with Western Australia.

And he apparently believes a transfer to New South Wales, where he will play alongside Australian Test skipper Steve Waugh, will boost his prospects of a return.

The left-hander, replaced an injured Waugh in last year's Headingley Test.

But he made just 15 in a losing effort, prompting Waugh to fight the pain of a calf injury to return for the series finale.

Katich will join Yorkshire in June as a short-term replacement for Darren Lehman, while the county skipper is involved in Australia's one-day series at home to Pakistan.

His previous county stint, with Durham in 2000, brought 1,089 runs at an average of 43.56, with three centuries.

But last year, captaining Western Australia while Adam Gilchrist and Justin Langer were on international duty, he managed just 585 first-class runs at an average of just over 34.

Meanwhile, NSW have announced former Test wicketkeeper Steve Rixon has been re-signed as coach for another season.
