Magee says career is over
Eamonn Magee
WBU welterweight champion Eamonn Magee has conceded that his boxing career is over after suffering serious injuries in a brutal gang beating.

The 32-year-old Belfast boxer had his leg badly broken when he was set upon in Belfast on Sunday night.

And Magee was found by doctors to have a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula after being dragged from a car.

"I can guarantee you that my career is over," he told BBC Northern Ireland: "Two specialists have told me so."

Magee said that the sudden end to his career was proving very hard to accept.

"It is difficult to cope with," he said.

"I have not got over it. I feel disgusted about what has happened to me.

"This week was to have been the best of my boxing life. I was to have signed to fight Sharmba Mitchell at the MEN Arena.

"The winner of that fight would have then met Ricky Hatton and become a very wealthy man.

"I want to stay in the fight game, maybe in training or management."
