Report: Reid thwarted in title bid

The 32-year-old Briton lost on a dubious decision to Ottke, who was defending his IBF super-middleweight crown for the 20th time.

"I'll be back, you can count on that," said an angry Reid.

"I hope Ottke retires soon and lets the proper fighters go out there and fight for the title and make the WBA and IBF belts worth what they used to be."

Reid was convinced he had won the contest.

"It's making a mockery of a world title fight. I had the first five or six rounds and had him down," said Reid.

"He was just an awful referee. You don't expect any favours obviously, but at least Dick Turpin wore a mask when he robbed people.

"Ottke is crafty and he was falling into me in that sixth round. I wasn't using my head at all, I was looking to throw punches.

"He was just constantly steaming in with his shoulder, I think he hit me in the face more times with his shoulder than he did with his fists.

"But when you've got a referee like that you are up against it big time. I knew it would be difficult but I didn't expect it to be as bad as that."

It is not the first time Ottke has defended his title in controversial circumstances.

"It's getting beyond a joke. That's 20 defences he's had now and whether you blame him or the boxing federations I don't know, be we are in a sport and sport has rules, and I think every rule was broken by him," said Reid.

"You could put up with his constant whinging and spoiling tactics if he was throwing some punches as well, but he wasn't doing anything."
