Kelly Holmes is expected to tell England's selectors this weekend whether she wants to be considered for inclusion for the Commonwealth Games.
The double Olympic champion, who has been suffering from an Achilles injury, is likely to opt for the 1500m if chosen by selectors.
Most of the England team will be picked on Monday for the 2005 Melbourne event.
"Our guideline is firstly to choose potential medallists," said England's chief of selectors Chris Carter.
Holmes has only competed twice during the summer.
She scored with an early season 1500m victory in Glasgow then 12 days ago in Sheffield, limped off the track in her farewell British appearance over 800m.
Holmes has met Commonwealth guidelines by achieving the 1,500m qualifying time where she ranks behind Helen Clitheroe who was pre-selected after winning June's trial race.
