'It is now veering towards Carrick'

Darren Fletcher has certainly tried to change things.

He has changed to a four at the back formation. He has brought in Shea Lacey, who Ruben Amorim chose not to give much game-time to. He brought in Kobbie Mainoo to start for the second time this season.

I don't think many or any people thought Fletcher would be a candidate for the job. I guess a draw and a defeat from two games will not enhance that.

Fletcher, in his own way, spoke emotionally [after the 2-1 FA Cup loss to Brighton] about what Man Utd means to him and why there's that determination and drive to try to stabilise what is happening at the moment.

At the moment, they seem to be in a bit of a mess.

The idea is to have a caretaker in time for the Manchester derby on Saturday. Then on to the end of the season.

The names we keep getting told are Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. I think Ole started the process as a favourite; it is now veering towards Carrick.

I am told there has been no job offer yet.
