JJ Gabriel and Kai Rooney were both on target at Carrington as Manchester United progressed to the last eight of the Under-18 Premier League Cup with a 6-0 win against Birmingham City.

Fifteen-year-old Gabriel, who scored the winner in the FA Youth Cup against Peterborough at Old Trafford, netted United's second goal before half-time.

It was 16-year-old Rooney's second goal of the season, split by an absence of over three months due to injury.

The game also marked debuts for goalkeeper Charlie Hardy, who joined United from Derby earlier this month, plus Harley Emsden-James, who moved from Southampton in June.

Jacob Watson, Rafe McCormack, Jay McEvoy and James Bailey were also on target as Darren Fletcher's side advanced to the quarter-finals as one of eight group winners.
