Amid all the talk about Bruno Fernandes' injury and how Manchester United will cope without him, it was slightly lost that Ruben Amorim's team played well at Villa Park but lost because they can't stop conceding goals.

United have kept one clean sheet this season, on Senne Lammens' debut against Sunderland in October.

Only Bournemouth, Leeds and the three clubs in the relegation zone have conceded more than their 28 goals in the Premier League this season. They have now conceded at least two goals seven times.

Leny Yoro's positioning for both Morgan Rogers' goals at Villa Park has been questioned, while Lammens' efforts to keep out the matchwinner wasn't particularly impressive.

Yet Amorim is adamant his side defended well.

"Sometimes you can suffer goals and defend well," he said.

"It is really hard to defend one against one with a player like Morgan Rogers because he can go both sides.

"There were some games, like against Nottingham (Forest) when we allowed so many shots. This was different.

"We tried to recover the ball really fast and we defend well. Ayden (Heaven) and Leny - really young guys - defended one against one most of the time. Luke Shaw the same. I think we defended well.

"It is not just if you suffer goals but the way you suffer goals. Today we defended well."
