Holders Cliftonville and Irish Premiership leaders Glentoran were among the top-flight sides to progress to the last 16 of the BetMcLean Cup on Tuesday night.

The Reds, who beat the Glens in last season's decider, saw off Coagh United 4-1 at Solitude while the Glens secured a 1-0 win over Institute at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

On a largely comfortable night for Premiership teams, there were big wins for Larne and Coleraine, while Ballymena United, Bangor and Crusaders also advanced.

Glenavon, who have lost all 10 league games this season, beat Warrenpoint Town, but Carrick Rangers and Portadown fell to Armagh City and Newry City.

Twelve-time winners Linfield booked their place in the next round with victory over Queen's University last week, with Dungannon Swifts facing Ards in the final round of 32 fixture on Wednesday.

Coleraine and Larne bounce back from league defeats

Goals from Rory Hale, Sean Robertson, Eric McWoods and last season's final matchwinner Joe Gormley helped Cliftonville overcome Premier Intermediate side Coagh United at Solitude.

Hale opened the scoring, and while Ben Mallon drew the visitors level, three second-half goals saw the north Belfast side through.

There was a shock at Holm Park as 10-man Championship side Armagh came from behind to beat Carrick Rangers 3-2.

Paul Heatley, making his first Carrick start since sustaining a head injury against Bangor last month, scored the opener on 11 minutes.

But Armagh fought back to lead as Igor Rutkowski, Scott McCann and Stephen Teggart scored before Nedas Maciulaitis pulled one back for Stephen Baxter's team.

Dermot McCaffrey was dismissed early in the second half for the hosts, but they held on for victory.

Elsewhere, Coleraine and Larne bounced back from league defeats at the weekend with big wins over third-tier sides.

Alex Watson and Declan McManus both bagged doubles as the Bannsiders eased into the next round with an 8-0 victory against Dollingstown at Planters Park.

Kobei Moore and Tiarnan O'Connor both scored hat-tricks as Larne thrashed Dergview 7-3 at Darragh Park.

Bangor also went through as they recorded a 4-1 win against Lisburn Distillery at Clandeboye Park.

Crusaders saw off Ballymacash Rangers 3-1 at Seaview while fellow Premiership side Ballymena United beat Ballinamallard United 1-0 at the Showgrounds.

There was a rare win for Glenavon as goals from Francely Lomboto and Josh Kee secured a 2-0 win over Warrenpoint at Milltown for the Lurgan Blues' first victory since parting ways with manager Paddy McLaughlin.

Jordan Jenkins' second-half goal was enough for Premiership pacesetters Glentoran to see off Institute, while Lee Newell's second-half header clinched Newry's win over Mid-Ulster rivals Portadown - who had Lee Chapman sent off late on - at the Showgrounds.

Senan Devine scored a first-half hat-trick as Harland and Wolff Welders thrashed Dundela 6-0, David Parkhouse scored twice as Moyola Park beat Annagh United 3-0 and Newington overcame Limavady 3-1 thanks to Rory Donnelly's brace and a Peter McKiernan goal.

Tyrone All-Ireland winner Cathal McShane scored an extra-time winner as Strabane Athletic beat Loughgall 3-2 at Lakeview Park.

On Wednesday, Dungannon Swifts came through 4-3 on penalties against Ards at Clandeboye Park.

It finished scoreless after 90 minutes with Conor Scannell giving the hosts the lead early in extra-time.

Junior hit back for the Premiership club to bring the tie to spot-kicks where they prevailed to book their place in the last 16.
