Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders says he has "a lot of trust" that Manchester City can still win the Premier League this season, despite suffering a setback on Sunday.

City's nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions was brought to an end by a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

It also ended striker Erling Haaland's 12-game scoring streak and left City in fifth position, six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

"I don't think it's the inconsistency," said Dutchman Reijnders. "The streak we set is pretty long. But we know this game we weren't at our best and we can do much better.

"With the amount of games we play each week, we have to [put this result aside].

"We have to focus on Wednesday against Swansea, we have to recover well and be ready for that game."

Asked if City can still finish top, Reijnders said: "Of course. It's a long journey and there are a lot of games coming. Six points - we can close that gap of course, as long as we focus on ourselves I have a lot of trust in that.

"It's a bummer that we lost here, but it's a long journey in this league and we have plenty of games. We have to keep working and keep fighting for the Premier League."
