Portsmouth goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid has signed a new deal with the club that will see him stay at Fratton Park until 2029.

The 28-year-old Austrian has extended his stay at Pompey for a further three-and-a-half years after initially joining in the summer of 2024.

So far Schmid has made 46 appearances for the Blues, keeping 12 clean sheets along the way.

"It's an incredible feeling," he told the club website., external "When I arrived at the beginning of last season I didn't expect to receive so much love from the fans.

"This is an amazing club and I'm really looking forward to the next few years at Pompey. I'm so happy to be here."

Prior to his Portsmouth move Schmid played for Austrian sides LASK and FC Blau-Weiss Linz.

He has missed part of the current season after picking up an injury against Southampton in September, but has since returned to the side after suffering a broken hand.

"We're absolutely delighted that Nico has committed his future to Pompey by signing a new contract," Portsmouth boss John Mousinho said.

"He enjoyed a successful first season at the club and was a big part of the reason why we survived in the Championship last term.

"Nico is an integral member of our squad and bringing him over from Austria last summer has proved to be an excellent bit of business.

"We're really happy with the goalkeeping unit we have at the club right now and how they all push each other daily to keep improving."
