Glentoran manager Declan Devine said there is "more to come" from striker Pat Hoban after he netted six goals in 52 minutes in the Glens' 7-0 victory over 10-man Carrick Rangers at Taylors Avenue.

Hoban broke the deadlock after nine minutes and scored three more before the break.

The former Derry City forward continued his impressive form after the restart and netted twice more before being substituted on 53 minutes with Liam Burt able to add a seventh for the away side.

"We are very fortunate to have Hoban," Devine told BBC Sport NI.

"It is not just about Pat's goalscoring, it is his overall leadership, his desire to be successful, what he brings on a daily basis to training and how he helps the young players.

"There is more to come from Pat and if we keep giving him the service we gave him today, there is one thing you are sure of, he will score goals."

The result moves the Glens to within two points of Coleraine in second place with three games in hand and extends their unbeaten run to four.

"This kind of result has been coming for a while to be honest. Our attacking play over recent weeks has been really good," Devine continued.

"Pat will get the headlines and [Ryan] Cooney will get the headlines, but, for me, it was a real team effort and everyone coming together in real desire and pursuit to get the three points."

'Good service' key to Hoban's haul

Hoban nets double hat-trick as Glens hammer ten-man Carrick

Hoban has now scored in three of Glentoran's last four games after netting just one goal in seven games earlier in the season.

Saturday's tally saw him become the first player since Portadown's Gary Hamilton to score six goals in an Irish Premiership game after he netted a double hat-trick in a 9-0 win against Omagh Town in October 2004.

The 34-year-old has now netted 14 goals this campaign and is second behind Crusaders' Fraser Bryden in the Irish Premiership goalscoring charts.

"Scoring the first and then second, I had a good feeling I could get three but not six," Hoban said.

"[There was] good service from the boys, good delivery into the box and I thought we played good stuff today.

"Four was the most I have scored; it was against Bohemians a good few years ago. I have never scored six."
