Defender Joe Rodon is a doubt for Leeds United's next game against Liverpool on Thursday after injuring his ankle against Sunderland

Joe Rodon could end a two-year streak of consecutive league appearances for Leeds United after injuring his ankle in Sunday's draw with Sunderland.

The Welshman is a doubt for their next game at Liverpool on Thursday after being taken off in the 31st minute against the Black Cats.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke told BBC Sport: "I fear that Joe Rodon will also probably miss this game (against Liverpool) and perhaps even the upcoming games. Doesn't look too good."

Rodon went down after a challenge from Brian Brobbey, before a near-identical challenge from Simon Adingra just minutes prior to Sunderland's goal.

The centre-back tried to play on but went down straight after the goal went in, with Farke forced into an early change.

If Rodon is sidelined for the trip to Anfield, it will be the first time the 28-year-old will have missed a league game since October 2023, a run stretching more than two years.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Farke said: "Joe is a warrior, if he was not he would not be able to be there for 100 games in a row for Leeds United and even with a little knock he always wants to be there.

"I like this mentality. I also cross my fingers that the injury is not too bad, it does not look great, he is an important player for us and hopefully he can be back pretty soon."

An influential figure for both club and country, Wales boss Craig Bellamy will be keeping an eye on Rodon's injury - although at this point there is no suggestion he will not be fully recovered and back playing before Wales' decisive World Cup qualifier against Bosnia on 26 March.
