Kone starts on Man Utd's Tamworth return

Manchester United's youngsters played their final game against senior opposition at Tamworth on Tuesday night.

The 3-0 defeat wrapped up a National League Cup campaign they ended with one win from their three games, strangely at National League leaders Rochdale in October.

There was a significant positive as Sekou Kone started his first game since suffering concussion in the initial meeting with Tamworth in August - a head injury that led to that game being abandoned.

Sam Mather was also given a rare start before a likely January transfer window move away from the club.

United are still to outline which players will remain for the second half of the season, with final decisions probably not made until after Friday's Premier League International Cup game against Borussia Dortmund at Old Trafford, after which United have three weeks off.

James Scanlon and Diego Leon, who have full international caps for Gibraltar and Paraguay respectively, were also involved at Tamworth and are among those who could get loan deals next month.
