Wigan Athletic have signed forward Akeel Higgins from West Bromwich Albion.

The 20-year-old joins the Latics after making one first-team appearance for the Baggies, in the FA Cup.

Higgins, who plays as a left winger or attacking midfielder, spent last season on loan at Exeter City in League One, scoring twice in 31 games.

He played under current Wigan manager Gary Caldwell at Exeter, and has signed a two-year contract.

"Akeel - when I first brought him to Exeter - was amazing, and he had a huge impact on the team. I believe Akeel has a huge future and has massive potential if he works hard," Caldwell told the Wigan Athletic website., external
