Who could England face in last 32 after qualifying for next round?

England's place in the knockout stages of the World Cup has been confirmed before they face Panama in their final group game on Saturday.

The Three Lions sit on four points after two games - meaning they are at least guaranteed one of the eight third-placed qualification spots.

Four other teams sit on four points - Sweden, Ecuador, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Paraguay - with four groups, including England's still to wrap up.

Uruguay's defeat by Spain on Saturday was the result that confirmed the Three Lions' place in the last 32.

England made a winning start to the tournament by beating Croatia 4-2, before being held to a goalless draw by Ghana on Tuesday.

England currently lead group L, with second-placed Ghana, level with the Three Lions on four points, playing Croatia in the other match.

Both games kick-off at 22:00 BST on Saturday.

If England match or better Ghana's result without losing they will finish top.

That would then set up a match against one of the eight best third-placed teams.

If DR Congo beat Uzbekistan in their final group K match at 00:30 BST on Sunday, England will play the third-placed team in that group.

That is almost certain to be DR Congo, bar a scenario whereby Portugal lose with a goal difference swing of seven between the teams. Then England would play Portugal.

If DR Congo draw or lose then England will play Senegal, bar two potential scenarios.

Firstly, Croatia lose to Ghana and group L does not provide a best third-placed team.

Secondly, the third-placed team from group J qualifies.

If these both happen, England play third in group J. If they don't, England play Senegal.

Third in Group J will be one of Austria or Algeria, who play each other in their final game.

If the game is a draw, England would play Algeria.

England could still play Austria if they lose by one goal.

If Algeria lose they are unlikely to qualify in third, in which case England play Senegal.

If England were to finish second in their group, they would play the second-placed team in group K, which is currently Portugal.

If England lose to Panama and finish third in the group, they would play the winners of group K, which is currently Colombia.

Thomas Tuchel has already confirmed Reece James will miss the final group fixture after he suffered a hamstring issue in the goalless draw with Ghana on Tuesday.

There was better news with regards to the availability of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson, who Tuchel said would all be available to face Panama.

Rice (calf) and Anderson (glute) missed training on Thursday, but returned on Friday.

Tuchel confirmed Saka is ready to start after coming off the bench in the opening two matches because of a long-term Achilles tendinitis complaint.
