Frustrated Christian Fuchs says he was disappointed with his Newport County side's "passive" display in their 3-0 FA Cup second-round loss to Boreham Wood.

Jeff King, Regan Booty and Matt Rush all netted for the hosts at Meadow Park as the National League side cruised to victory against the Exiles.

Former FA Cup winner Fuchs - who lifted the trophy with Leicester City in 2021 - said his side needed to be braver in possession after losing the chance of a big tie in the third-round draw.

"I can accept defeat, no problem, but after 20 minutes, we were too passive," he said.

"We were giving up a little bit on ourselves which I didn't like to see.

"We just tried to play it safe. That's not how you build momentum, that's not how you get yourself out of it.

"You also need to be a bit brave with the ball, it was just too passive overall."

Defeat by Boreham Wood leaves Fuchs without a win in his three matches since he was named as Dave Hughes' successor at Newport.

The Exiles sit five points adrift of safety ahead of their return to League Two action against Crewe Alexandra on Wednesday night (19:45 GMT).

Fuchs believes Newport have to put their cup horror show behind them as they switch their focus back to preserving their Football League status.

"I told them (the players) already that I didn't like what I saw today," he said.

"I don't want to be standing here after every away game having to lift their heads or having players in there having a go at each other - which is fine, I like the dressing room to be loud and I like them to care about their performance.

"But at the same time, let's scrap the game, it's done and we need to focus on the league and move forward."
