The Showroom

The place where people with elaborate facial hair gather to discuss the latest arthouse films. Though it's actually quite groovy...

The Showroom has set itself up, very succesfully, as the place where thinking Sheffielders go of an evening.

The drinks are expensive enough to put off the general hoi polloi, and the sculptured beards deter the part timers. Plus, there’s always the guy in the corner drinking an elaborate coffee while waxing lyrical about the latest European "art film". (Come on, you aren’t fooling anyone. It’s all for the jubblies.)

But it just about scrapes through the cliches to be a place where it’s possible to have a fun, intelligent and slightly sophisticated drink. Even if you do feel a bit smug while you sup.

i love the food here, i come here at least twice a week as i work close by and the food never disappoints. the coffee is great and service is friendly. check out the film and food deal, its great value. if you haven't been here yet you need to, it's lovely!

6/1/06 Food here is still unreliable which is insane given the type of crowd the cinema attracts. If I knew I could rely upon a nice meal here followed by a good film I'd happily make a night of it, just wish they could get a decent kitchen team together as I think they could rake it in from a restaurant here that served good quality food, and I love the showroom and want to see it succeed.

I only go in here before gigs at the Leadmill, never have more then one bottle as the prices are ridiculous. Nice diverse crowd shame about the DJ which when I was their last stood there and pressed a PC Keyboard!

I've always enjoyed the food at the Showroom-lovely hommous sandwich June 2005 being the most recent. But the service can be...ponderous...leisurely...like a French film noir.

I have to say that I think all these reviews are out of date. How about the Greedy Cow visiting again and starting the page from there? I really struggle to believe any of these views, I have been a regular for the past 12-18 months and am yet to experience bad service. As for the bouncer removing someones drink at 10.55pm. Was it a Sunday? If so, fair enough,

Greedy Cow come back and try the food you will not be dissapointed as this review is nearly four years old and is not a true reflection of us, also the other reviews are old as well so lets get up to date and see you soon.

Booked a table for 4 on a Sunday,(brought the inlaws) what a disaster! Table not booked when we arrived. Fianally sat down after staff moved other customers! We all fancied fish and chips to be told it had run out. 2 of us had a jacket potato which arrived luke warm and undercooked. The others had steak pie which was full of gristle and definitely overpriced for what you actually were given. There's also a problem with smoking - the no smoking area is so small and tucked away at the back! Saying this, we love the cinema!!

Just an update on my experience of the Showroom. We've tried the food twice recently (October 2004). Still not impressed. Bad music, played so loud you have to shout over it. We ordered 2 meals: a sandwich that was posh looking and tasted so-so, and a veggie dish that hadn't been properly cooked.

Tom
I have to admit that i was massively put off by the over-aggressive bouncer (literally took my remaining half-pint out of my hands at 10.55) and the apparant uncaring attitude of the barstaff the very first time i visited and haven't been back since.

Liam
The showroom was really cool, back when chris duckenfield was the dj. Now, the dj play souless music aimed for post eco warriors. Sort it out, it used to be a little classier.

i have been a regular to the showroom for a year now and i seem to always be tempted in to to the cafe for the film and meal deal they have, the food is always of the highest quality and the menu is virtually never the same every time i visit. i must say the service is very efficient and the staff are friendly and always there to help with any quiries i may have with some of the dishes on the menu. Always a perfect night out, i recommend it to anyone

I am a regular vistor to the Showroom for food and have never had a bad experience. The food has always been of exceptional quality and the service fantastic and staff are very friendly too. I would recommend it to anyone.

We've had nothing but bad experiences of eating at showroom. Cold mash, risotto resembling milk pudding, coffee and hot chocolate that genuinely did taste like dish water. And when they have DJs, the music's not as good as when they don't. It's a shame as the cinema's fantastic, it's a good space, and the staff always seem nice.

visited the showroom on valentines night with my loved one and found the whole experience etremely enjoyable. the food was excellent and may i say the first time i have been able to make an informed choice for my vegan partner. Atmosphere and service was relaxed and professional and lent itself to an alround enjoyable experience. i will reccomend the cafe to friends and family and not hesitate to eating there again.

Jo
Unforunately, things haven't changed that much. we ate there last night - no record of our booking, 1/2 hour to get a steak that was below blood heat, dirty glass, green water for soup, and grumpy staff. If you can't cook, serve or wash up, a career in catering may be the wrong choice, folks...

Julie
Myself and my friends visit the Showroom on a regular basis and have always found the food and service excellent.

Dan
While I agree with Gail that the food has improved at the Showroom, the atmosphere has worsened to at least an equal degree. I hope they look at that, as they have their food, and do something to bring it back up to standard.

Sal
we have been there several times and loved it evry time. It's good value for money and great veggie food. Well worth a visit..you must have hit an off day

Hi Gail, Thanks for contacting me. You're right, the review is quite old, and I've heard good things about the Showroom in the last couple of months. I hope to get to you asap, but in the meantime I've updated the page with your new opening times and a link to the Showroom site so people can find out more. Love, Greedy
