Lurking
just round the corner from the Fat Cat (you could easily throw a
stone from the beer garden of one pub into the other) this pub is
a recent addition to the hostelries of the area and seems to be
an attempt to create a traditional atmosphere in a newly fitted
out establishment.
The
small taproom is just a little too small and due to the fact that
it's the only room inside the pub it gets a little crowded at night
when it's too cold to be out in the beer garden.
The
range of beverages on offer here is a little bit more spartan and
a good deal less organic than that of the Fat Cat across the road,
but if you persevere you should find something to your liking.
The
one thing that must be said is that this place tries just a little
to hard to be a traditional old alehouse and ends up looking contrived.
Faded
sepia photographs of old Sheffield scenes are one thing, but dried
hops hanging from the celing and the like is another altogether
when you consider that the place looks out onto a vacant lot paved
with concrete in the red-light district.
There
are actually advertisements for morris dancing on the walls in this
place, you have been warned...

Mat I'd rather they didn't get rid of the review as it's my opinion (to which I am entitled) and not that out of date. The comments that my review sparked present a different view of the pub in question and I welcome that as any review can sound one-sided. I have never taken the mickey out of English tradition and have seen and enjoyed many forms of folk-dancing in the vicinity of said pub. I simply try to write my review from the perspective of a young person rather than as a devotee of Real Ale (which I am) as when the latter write they tend to be hostile to any criticism of their favoured drinking dens even when fair and evenly expressed (i.e. my review of the Hilsborough Hotel).
Dave This is an ace pub. Sorry your original writer/reviewer feels he needs to take the mickey out of english traditions. And since the review is badly out-of-date why not get rid of it and get someone else to bring it up-to-date?
Howard Thomas An excellent pub good beer
dave Fantastic Pub Best pub in Sheffield by far beer is spot on , you can see they really care about the beer ,great atmosphere, can you open one in crookes please(worth the taxi fair though)
Meaks This excellent pub now has a large no smoking extension at the back, while still retaining an outside garden area and the traditional bar. The extension means that there is much more seating available but be warned - due to the increasing popularity of the place the pub still gets packed out at weekends. Great, mixed crowd and the excellent selection of ever changing beer is easily as good (if not better) than the other Real Ale pubs in the area. Won the 2004 CAMRA pub of the year award, and well deserved.
Dave Hulme An excellent pub now a firm favourite with locals and newcomers alike.A wide range of beers suits all tastes and with good pub grub served daily at lunchtime it gets extremely busy. New addition is the non smoking to the rear which has been tastefully decorated in keeping with the original pub.It has also recently been voted as pub of year. What more can you say.
Michael J Hodgson A comfortable, claean and friendly pub serving excellent beer at reasonable prices.
Bill Everything I like. World class beer at around 1.50 a pint. Friendly and comfortable. Quiet enough for those alcohol-fuelled taproom philosophy sessions, not so quiet it makes you nervous. Excellent!

Jackson writes:

Situated
within the Kelham Island Conservation Area and originally the White
Hart dating back to the 1880's it was refurbished and re-opened
in 2002 after being closed for several years.
Now
a comfortable and friendly one roomed pub with kitchen and beer
garden it boasts up to 8 real ales from Independent Breweries with
prices starting at £1.38 per pint, plus draft and bottled
Belgian Biers.
It
is fast becoming a favourite haunt of the Kelham Island Trail -
boasting a Folk Night every Sunday.
