After
many years as a friendly local that needed a spit and polish , the
Cross Scythes has relaunched with a new team, a brand new look and
brand new logo .
The
decor is "Ikea" style - stripped pine, chrome lighting,
leather sofas and pastel colours. It's a culture shock to those
who remembered the old Cross - with its dark stained wood interior
and homely style - but regulars state it's something the pub's needed
for quite a while.
A warm
welcome and efficient service means it's not long before you're
served !
Drinks-wise,
there's a wide selection of beers and lagers, spirits and the relaunch
also sees the introduction of a wine list. Although food was not
available at the time I visited, there are plans to introduce this
sooner rather than later.
Music
is in house - a decent mix of classic and modern hits creating an
bright ambience to a bright new venture. The pool and snooker tables
that were a part of the "old" Cross have disappeared -
a couple of fruit machines now supply the entertainment.
The
pub needed to change to keep its customers satisfied - now the changes
have been made, satisfaction is guaranteed...
In
the past, the Cross Scythes was the centre of all that was good
about a pub in Totley. With a little bit of hard work, there's no
doubt it can regain that position once again.

Lizzy Elbow I don't know what people are talking about - I have been several times and found the food tobe of a very good standard. initialyl attracted to the reasonable and tasty sunday lunch, the menu has now really impoved, so it does the basic traditional fare really well, and also provides something a little more out of the ordinary for those who want it.
Andy & Jayne We have recently taken over the Cross Scythes and have heard about some of the problems people had last year. We hope that people will try the pub again now as we can promise a warm welcome, good food and good drink.
Jo Gallagher I have recently visited the cross scythes pub and foun that food was available and there was a good selection of drinks. the food was delicous and staff were very cheerful and bright. im glad the place has been taken over and is deffinitely taking a good direction
Harry S Christmas dinner was a let down, but it wasn't that bad, at least they took it out of the packaging. Beers crap as well. In fact if I could find another pub as convenient as this one, I wouldn't go in here. It can't be good when I'd rather stay in with the missus and watch the eastenders omnibus on a sunday dinner time than go to this place.
Marriott Family Christmas Day Dinner. Was absolutley disgusting. The food was barely warm and the yorkshire pudding was still frozen.
