A typical village 'local' with people who sort of tut if you've taken their seat, but don't let that put you off. It is a friendly, cosy place with perfectly stored beers (the best Tetley's Smooth in the area, my hubby states!).

Food served daily (lasagne, fish dishes, the usual, but well presented and hearty) Quiz night on Sundays, with free sandwiches & black pudding - the perfect end to a weekend.

Check out the pub cat, Thomas. He's built like a dog and certainly keeps the regulars in check !

This pub is very friendly and the food is excellent. As a favour Stuart and Sue (the current owners) agreed to allow me to have our wedding reception there a few years ago.(They don't really have a function area)and as luck would have it, the weather was fantastic so we were able to spill out into their superb beer garden as well. Thomas, the pub cat(and not some dodgy punter)does indeed like to be stroked. Beware though - once he's had enough, he lets you know with fangs and claws!

The staff have always made us very welcome and we are not locals. I love to sit and stroke thomas. He lets you know when he has had enough though!! I like this pub and would be delighted if this was my local!

All seems 'as it is' to me and would add that as a child I would fall asleep in my bedroom, quarter of a mile away listening to the singing outside the 'Top House' (as we called it). You could hear the volume of noise from both the R&C and the other village pub 'The Star' as if they were in some sort of competition. Sadly today they would be 'moved on' or even prosecuted. Oh! happy days!

Good pub, Great cat.

OK I remember when the top house had Ted Catlin,ex Sheffield Wednesday,as the landlord. Bill Fox lived in what is now the high bar,it was a cottage then which belonged to the brewery. It was a sort of spit and sawdust pub then, but a typical village pub.The pub didn't have a cellar,it was an offshot and in the summer Ted used to have to put wet sacks over the barrels to keep them cool,no flash freezers then.Lots more I could tell you about the old place, and the characters that drank there and the many happy hours I spent there
