A strange
pub indeed, The Punch Bowl marks the exact point at which the "student-orientated"
part of Sheffield ends and the more traditional and less cosmopolitan
end of the city begins.
Not
that this makes the pub a place to be avoided, just one that should
be taken in very small doses.
A
chain pub the last time anyone checked, The Punch Bowl is the usual
combination of bland interior, bland selection of drinks and pretty
surly and worrying clientele.
The
pub makes a good stopping off point on a pub crawl through the immediate
area, but I wouldn't recommend that you stay for more than one drink
at a time.
Behave
in here as the landlord is a big bloke.

Robb - Chesterfield I am a Chesterfield fan and the pub didn't bother me in the slighest. It is ok and is not in the slightest bit rough or intimidating!

David This is a pub for avoiding Especially on match days,a meeting place for so called Fans, police and the helicopter, In years gone by was a great pub for locals and good food ,now just a fun pub for bottle drinking youths
A2 Come on guys, the Punch Bowl does what it says on the tin -serves cold beer, nice, spacious pub, always has the footie on (and I'm a girl!)has music and pool tables for those who wish to participate. It's OK, more than OK actually and is usually our last stop before partaking of a fine curry at Jaflong. AND their glasses of wine used to be HUGE - almost 1/2 pint sized. Nuff said.
julie wilcock Hi lighten up guys my best friend works at the punch bowl must admit decor needs sorting but ever been when theres an england match the atmosphere is great like being at the match yourself it is know for the football side of things give it a try next time england are playing.
Phil I found the atmosphere in this pub to be rather intimidating, but I'm not easily scared and after a few beers thoroughly enjoyed my time in here. Yes it is quite scary but unles you cause bother then whats the problem. Lighten up man and grow some balls.
Mat The time I spent in there was quite enough for me to feel more than a little intimidated by the folks that stared at me for lacking a bright orange shirt and a shaved head...but then maybe it might be an idea to check the place out some time other than closing time on a Saturday night? That way I might see a whole different side of the pub as you suggest. By the way, I was just commenting on the Landlord's height and build, there was no insult implied. It's just that I'd think twice before getting on the wrong side of him, that's all.

If you'd like to spend more time in the punchbowl, (note one word)
[thanks Gemma - GC] then you will find that its a really
nice pub and the clientele are in fact good people but obviously
not to you.
P.S. the landlords cool and i fancy him
