I can only say that I agree with Glugfest, what a shame to give the Hollybush such a negative name. I am a regular their and have to say that those who haven t visited for a while would be pleasantly surprised. The new landlord and landlady are very welcoming and have updated the decor completely making it a very nice venue.
We can also eat excellent meals not only on Sunday but through the week.I do not find it partticularly smoky and I am a non smoker. Its a friendly pub in a great location and as far as my husband is concerned a good trad pint thanks to the new Landlord Kev. Try it for yourself and see the improvements.

For the record. I certainly am not the landlord and stand by comments. As for (a handful)of regulars keeping the pub going, it seems more like they drove the majority away! Perhaps Printemp ought to remember that a pub is also a business and as such needs to turn a profit - not something a few local are likely to generate unfortunately.

Having frequented the Holly Bush on and off for a number of years I would agree that the decor needed updating. However as the pub has always been a friendly local pub this was not as important as the cheer and banter brought about by the cosy (and sometimes fug laden)atmosphere. The current landlord has clearly set his cap at the food market, whilst having no regard for the regulars who have over the years enabled the pub to remain going through the quiet winter months.
By all means pay a visit but beware the previous contributor's (the Landlord perhaps?) lyrical waxing and the extortionate beer prices. £2.62 for a pint of Stella is more West St than Rivelin Valley.

I can only assume that the majority of the previous comments are somwewhat out of date, as I visited this pub last Sunday (sept 2005) and can confirm that the pub has indeed had an internal facelift that most reviewers were asking for, with new furnishings and a generally lighter decor. It has also managed to get rid of the seemingly perpetual acrid cloud of cigarette smoke that used to forever be hanging in a thick smog in the lounge. My wife and I stopped going to this pub several years ago as the level of cigarette smoke was just unbearable (and my wife used to smoke in thiose days and even she couldn't stand it)but now it's a real pleasure to visit again. I can't comment on the quality of the beer as they were selling Tetley's and I can't abide the stuff, but I settled for a pint of Stella and a glass of dry white wine with Soda which came to £4.64, which is the cheapest round of drinks I've bought in ages. On the day we were there the pub was doing a brisk trade in Sunday lunches, which looked excellent and I understand that demand is now such that you are advisable to book in advance. I also understand that the changes that the new owners have made have not gone down well with some of the (chain smoking) regulars who have taking umbridge at the desire for a more pleasant, healthy atmosphere and have taken their custom to the Anvil. Well good luck to them I say, but for anyone else who fancies a drink in a traditional country style pub virtually on your door step, or you haven't been there for a while, give it a go. You'll not be disappointed.

The place has recently had a change of owner and they have given the place a much needed face lift. I would definitley recommend the sunday roasts, but they beer can be a bit unreliable. Nice, friendly atmosphere though.

I think the Hollybush is a good pub in an ideal spot, just needs to be modernised. Bonfire night is always brilliant and in an excellent location to sit outside in the summer.

never mind 20 years more like 50 years. There is not much to choose from and what little their is, it's expensive. Lets see if DIY SOS can help cos it needs something. Summers were good but its lost it touch, the BBQ is never on.

Lawrence is quite right, the Hollybush is great for sitting outside in the summer, but the interior is dreadful, very worn looking seventies style mock Tudor.Yuk. To make matters worse the beer is very poor quality, both the Stones and the Tetleys.I would recommend walking for another 5 minutes to the Anvil for top quality beers.

TRADITIONAL???, I don't think s, more like run down. It's great in the summer don't get me wrong but thats only a small part of the year, time for a makeover me thinks. Lets get the DIY SOS team in cos it definately needs something to add a bit of life to the place.
