Unusually,
a pub that is neither offensively commercial nor grim.
While
many small pubs insist that ‘character’ is the stuff that rubs off
the walls and sticks to your clothing, The Closed Shop manages to
be cosy and friendly as well as clean and fairly smart.
Despite
being small, it happily accommodates a pool table and is rarely
crowded.
Various
special food offers crop up throughout the week.
The
selection of drinks available is standard and moderately priced,
and with the bonus of a patio outside, this is definitely a pleasant
little pub to visit.

G Raff The Closed Shop certainly is " refreshingly cool" and "rarely overcrowded", plus other euphemisms. It is well equipped with one of the few pool tables left in Sheffield which takes 50 p.

This is a nice little pub that manages to hit all of the major checkpoints
that you might desire in a nearby watering hole. Pool Table? Check.
Big screen for the football? Check. Good range of drinks? Check.
Now, while this is undoubtedly a promising start for any establishment
there are scores of places in Sheffield that fit the above description.
Let me narrow the field. Well firstly it's not decorated in the
oh-so-modern but oh-so-tacky style of so many city centre pubs;
it's bright but it's welcoming. Secondly it's got a great name,
don't quite know what it's all about but at least it's not another
"Kings Head" or worse still an ultra hip chain with a 'Bar' prefix.
Finally it serves curry and a pint on a Thursday night for £2.95.
I feel there is little more I can say about that, it truly is a
deal that says more than a thousand words. Students are paticularly
likely to reap the benefit.
