I have been to the one in leeds and I must say it was extremely average also. The deco was ok, modern, but not very oriental. The restaurant itself however was just messy, I couldn't find the cutlery, the food was poorly presented and was dry and plain, and all of the toppings for the ice cream were just open in tupawear boxes and just didn't look appertising. This was all on a weekday afternoon so they weren't exactly rammed, what do the staff actually do there? 2 cows

I have been to Wokmania twice and both times the service was very poor and food poor.

I have visited twice now, once at sunday lunch time and once on saturday night with friends and on both occasions found it to be excellent. The one thing I noticed was the next day i wasn't gagging for water(due to mono sodium glutamate) as i was in the other chinese buffets in town.
Can only speak for myself and friends but we think its spot on and will return.

absolute rubbish, stood 5 mins at counter while staff talked to each other and ignored us waiting to ask for a table,we got a table and went for the food, what a dissapointment the food was just warm, salty and full of pepper most of the food was dried up,the brocolli was sloppy and my 4 year old who loves brocolli would not eat it,in fact he would not eat anything from there which says something for the quality of the food for a 4 year old to refuse to eat it,when we go to the other buffet in sheffield he has seconds,i would never go there again and do not recommend anyone to go there, total rubbish food, full of students and ignorent staff.minus 5 cows if there was such a score but seen as there is no such score one cow.

I went 19 Nov 2005, I found the food pretty basic most of the meat dishes were filled out with loads of chopped onion, making it difficult to get to meats etc. there was food on the floor left for people to walk around. A table even collapsed and the poor people sat at it just moved to another table. the broken pots etc just stayed there. Trying to get a drink which was waiter/ress service was difficult, " you will have to wait no ones available, this was at 5.30 pm. my one and only visit back to Jumbos in future

Andy M - it's the principle of having to pay for service charge in a 'self-service' restaurant. They must take their customers as fools...

I have eaten at Wokmania 4 four times now and I think that it is totally worth the visit. I agree with Glugfest in that when you see chinese people eating there, it must be of some quality. To see people queuing outside the door at weekends can only be an indicator of its popularity. As for the 'gratuitys', it is cheap enough anyway, so why complain about a few extra pence??!!! Its not going to break your bank is it. All staff were very attentive and polite, in particular the tall lad with black hair, the girlfriend was more than pleased! Good decor too. Highly recommendable.

Very true.but we found there was no vegetarian food to speak of , no fish and no icecream left the night we visited. We shall not return if things do not improve.

We went with a party of 18 and were extremely disapointed. The food was extremely average and many of the "tubs" were not topped up during the course of the stay. The drinks waiter was slow and surly, and to top it off there is a gratuity of 10%
which they add on for the privilege of serving youself.
Do not pay this,
A place to be avoided.

I have visited Wokmania in doncaster and I have found no problems with it at all. I've not been forced to pay any extra tips and the food has always been pleasent. The staff are some of the politest staff you'll see, there was one particular woman who was clearing my table everytime i'd finished which i was very satisfied with. you are not forced to pay extra tips, the food is good value for money so theres no point complaining. if you dont like it dont go but all i'm saying is that in doncaster wokmania is one of the most popular restaurants and one of the friendliest.

Decor is very nice, service good but the food was awful. We went on a Wednesday evening around 6.00 p.m. The food had quite clearly been sat around for some time. It all seems to be set out wrong - banana fritters next to savoury sauces - I keep trying buffet restaurants and I keep saying never again. This time, never again!

i went to Wokmania for a mates birthday and found the food to be very delicious. The only thing i found disappointing was the dessert section. There were only ice-cream and some fruit available which i thought was quite poor

I went last Saturday night (8/10/05). I'd been looking forward to this place opening and thoroughly enjoyed the food. However, I was awake half the night with bad stomach cramps and didn't feel too rosey throughout the Sunday either. I really hope it wasn't the food but it has put me off visiting for a while though! Can't fault the staff though - very bright, attentive and professional; especially considering how recently it opened and how busy it was at the time.

I went to Wokmania a few days ago and I found the place to be okay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. But the food was only luke warm. There also wasn't much on offer for dessert. I was going to have ice-cream but they only had 1 machine and it was broken. If you drink a lot of pop then this is the place to go because they only charge you for the glass, so you can re-fill as many times as you want. Good offer! The decor is lovely and it looks very smart inside. But I don't think I would visit again because there are better chineses in Sheffield. But what was good was when the group of us went to pay we got a 20% discount because there was no ice-cream available. Very good indeed!

Have been to this place twice, once in the first week of opening, in which the food was very poor, service dire etc. However they have improved considerably with food being available and staff more attentive. Never noticed about the gratuity charge though ...... (thanks for pointing out).
I did speak with the Manager on the 2nd visit as he was doing the rounds about what people thought - and had said in the first few weeks they had really struggled to keep up with demand as they werent expecting it to be so high. He also offered a deal on Christmas Parties.
Think it worth a revisit now they have improved a lot.

We went to Wokmania for the lunch buffet the day after it had opened. Although we got there at 12noon which is when they open, many dishes were not yet laid out and some of the items displayed on the menu weren't actually availble (including Prawn Crakcers - which I LOVE!). For 6 of us the bill came to £44 - and as other people mentioned, there was 10% "Gratuties". I have no idea what the "gratuties" were meant to be for, because the food is serve yourself, the drinks are serve yourself and we even had to ask for the bill twice as it never came and there was a queue at the till ! Wouldn't hurry back.......

Went to Wokmania on a saturday night, were pleased we had booked as there was a queue of people awaiting tables. Regular customers at the other 2 oriental buffets we were looking forward to trying this. What can I say? There was NO food! On approaching the manager we were assured that the food would arrive within 10 mins. After a further 15 mins and scraping around for a couple of spare ribs, we decided that enough was enough. We again approached the manager who at this point said that there was no gas in the kitchen and they were trying to microwave stuff! He was still allowing the queue of people to form and did not close the doors at all. We did not pay for the paultry amount of food we ate and will not being returning!!

He is bang on with this review, Wokmania looks nice nice but it isnt, VERY poor service (dont ask people in pink shirts for drinks as they take orders and drinks finally turned up when just about finished food) Poor bland food. At least the 10% graturity has disappeared. Will not be returning or recommending it to anyone. One cow just for the chairs even if you have to ask everyone to "budge up" if you want ot get to your table.
Not nice place - avoid!

I visited this new restaurant last Sunday 18th Sept and do not agree with the majority of the reviewer's comments. My wife and I found the food to be delicious with plenty of variety and of good, if not exceptional, quality. Nor did I think the food particularly greasy (and I really hate greasy food). One thing I do agree with is the issue about the gratuity, I must admit I just paid up and it was only later that I realised the bill didn't quite add up. I definately think this should have been mentioned on the bill, particularly as they also leave a plate out on the bar for tips! One thing that I did notice was the significant number of chinese families eating there - something which I've always thought was a good indicator of the quality and authenticity of any eatery.
