What's your name?
John Nally

Where is it?
The Sweet Centre
Meadowbank Hotel,
Meadow Bank Rd
Rotherham
S61 2NF

What's the number?
01709 555500

What's the grub like, then?
The Starters were nice, The main courses were all mixed up with the wrong meals being served to the wrong members of our party. The main courses were poor in taste and were very late coming.

What did you drink?
We did not know it was a dry house and had to dash to the Beer Off to get supplies

What's the crowd like?
The clientele were mixed but mostly adults

And the vibe?
The waiters looked rushed and confused.

Anything else you'd like to say?
We booked almost a week before for 9.pm but had to wait until 9.20 to be seated, then got ignored for long periods. We got our starters at 9.50 but the main course did not come till 10.20 and we had a taxi booked for 10.30

I was very dissapointed with the service. I was more disapointted that they mixed the meals up and it was only by taste we guessed what the contents were. They were very understaffed and 10 people was too big a party for them to handle.

Value for money?
Pretty good value. 10 ate for £98.00, no drinks

Attended function in November. Food below average to poor. Nice decor especially fishtank. Not visiting again

My husband and I eat there very frequently and have never been anything other than pleased with the food and the service. Having lived in Bradford for many years and eaten in many restaurants there, I had always been disappointed with Asian food in South Yorkshire until this restaurant opened.I would always recommend it.

i took my fiance and my future mother to this restaurant shortly after its official opening, we had booked in advance over the telephone and had asked a few questions about howthings were going and if the place was likely to be busy. we arrived and promptly went to the bar to order our drinks only tobe told there were no alcoholic drinks available, off to the local off licence we trotted, we returneed to be greeted withthe menues being read out to us from an a4 sheet of card board because we were told the menu's hadn't been printed yet. the meals on offer were very low in chioce. our meals too arived in the wrong order. i'e mains before starters. all the food was luke warm and taastless. the staff had not been trained at all and this restaurant should not have been opened without being fully equiped with all the correct training in place and with all the correct stationary and menu's.

I wish I new about this web site before I experienced this restaurant, The service was awful, food was awful, The best way to descried this is it was like eating in a back street waiting room of a Asian taxi rank. 1 out of 10

Party of four called 29/4/05 that hadnt booked, Was very impressed how they fitted us in at such short notice. Starters arrived in all the wrong order, Main course wasn’t much better we had three times more rice than we ordered. If there is a Indian equivalent of Faulty Towers this is it. Do Not be taken in by the impressing frontage ,

the starters were great and i thought the service was immaculate! we must bear in mind that this is a new restaurant finding its ground and is inevitabely going to improve. 19/04/05

I went for a take away at 6.30 on a wednesday evening. Had to wait 25 minutes for the meal. Cost me £9.20 for starter and main course. The food was awful. Nice carrier bag, NUFF SAID !

I go to the sweet centre at least 4 times a month for a takeaway, although i have not eaten in the resteraunt due to having two children, the service i receive together with the food make it the best indian for miles around for me as a takeaway customer i give it 10/10, I do have alot of dinner parties and always go there if my guests want an asian flavour. I will write again once i have sat and ate a meal there.

Very disappointed, I travelled over twenty miles to eat in this so called authentic restaurant The food is so nothing I have ever tried or seen before, I can proudly Say that I am very well travelled man that has served two years in India and nine months in Pakistan. My wife is Indian and she is also disgusted that this food is advertised as authentic, Utter charlatans.

What’s happened to this restaurant? When it first opened it was second to none but called last week (15/1/2005) And was appalled, The food was very average , The waiters wasn’t rude but also wasn’t concerned at all, The only thing I can conclude is : 1. Is the opening honey moon period over, 2. Do they have a new manager 3. Have the staff had a pay cut, What ever has happened it is not good for their trade . Do not expect anything special

John Nally
I read with interest the other comments, to be fair it had only been open a short while. I will try it again and see if things have improved. Like some have said I might have caught them on a bad night.

i went to the sweet centre. the food an service was top class. referring to Paul Collins comments how can you cook a chicken with feathers still attached. Asian dishes don't use cheese unless you order paneer.

sue
My curry was auwful the sauce was cheesy tastin. Disappointed with the choice of sweets mainly ice creams - what happened to the the indian ones we would have liked to try???? Portions were small and all inall would rate 1 out of 5

Paul Collins
VEGETARIANS BEWARE. We went with our three children, who are all used to dining out, and all enjoy Indian Food. Two of our children are vegetarian and their food came with small amounts of meat in. My wifes food had a very strange smell, the chicken wasn't brEast but wings complete with feathers and wasn't edible. We were charged in full for meals that had clearly not been touched. NEVER AGAIN, however the toilets were clean.

Rona Gager
John must have gone on a bad night. Food and service great. Highly recommended.

Claire Michaels
I agree with the suplimentary comment. We had a very enjoyable meal at the sweet centre. John must have been there on a bad evening because our food and service was top draw. It is a new establishment so perhaps when John visited the staff were having teething problems. I definately recomend it for any one who likes Indian cuisine and shall certainly be returning myself.

David Raybould
I must say I respect this persons opinion, but we have had quite the opposite experience at the sweet centre and would award it five for taste, cleanliness and service. The food was different from other curry houses I have been to and it was nice to see Asian clientele there suggesting that the food was more authentic than it perhaps is in some other places. I liked the idea of taking your own drinks as it saved a lot of money, although I must admit I knew about this before hand so was not dealt the inconvenience of having to travel for some! All in all it was a very enjoyable night and our return is already planned.
