What's your name?
Kate Slack

Where is it?
Sahibs Indian Restaurant
138 West St
Sheffield South Yorkshire
S1 4ES

What's the number?
0114 276 1186

What's the grub like, then?
Excellent, First Class Food. The food is freshly cooked and the atmosphere is excellent. The one thing that both my husband and myself appreciate is that there is no rowdiness or trouble/problems on Friday nights when Sheffield is busy.

There are no doormen to make you feel imtimdated but you know that there will be no drunks allowed in spoiling your meal. Children are made most welcome and the waiters will speak to them making them feel welcome also.

This we do know as we take our 5year old grandaughter with us and she is made most welcome. They will make her a meal of chicken and chips (as she dosn't eat Indian YET!!!)

What did you drink?
Lager - cold and tasteful

What's the crowd like?
Very good

And the vibe?
Excellent

Anything else you'd like to say?
Excellent choice of restaurant. All our friends that we have ever taken there now return with their other friends. Also: If you want a 'Silk Purse' try Sahibs. If you require a 'Pigs Ear' then eat elsewhere!!! (An old Derbyshire saying that my mum told me years ago)

Value for money?
Excellent value for money - cost can vary on what you choose to eat

Don't listen to all the negative reviews here! As of 08/12/05 I've been something like 30 times, sure it's not 5-star food (and not 5-star prices either!) but I've never had a bad dish. I'm not saying the other reviewers didn't have a bad time once, only that on average it's a really good place. All food places should be no smoking and this one isn't - though often no one actually smokes. The sooner they make it all non-smoking the better. I've had about 3 "average" dishes here and the rest have been somewhere between "good" and "great" and have been with lots of friends, many times.

we had sumthing called the biriyani here...very pathetic...tasted horrible,i have eaten real indian biriyani...and this is no where close to it.liars

not a spectacular menu so with very little to choose from you'd think the dishes would be pretty good.....but they weren't. Too crowded with tables and chairs so everytime somebody from another table got up to go or came in we where being bumped into as we had been seated in the centre section. Would i go there again? Probably not.

Emma
I went here again a couple of weeks back, this time in a group of 14, and the service was great, the food was even better, and the bill was very reasonable.

jack
Used to go often, but last visits were very ordinary and food not at all good. Do not go now.

ralph
been there a few times but dont think it's anything special to be honest. pretty run of the mill. 08/06/05

I love this place. It was the first indian restaurant I went to as a child, when my parents used to take me to the one in Meadowhall. The first time I went I'd never had an Indian before, and when I demanded a McDonalds(I was only 5 at the time) the waiters would have been more than happy to oblige. As it was I had curry and have loved it there ever since. Everytime I go to the one in Sheffield City Centre, the service is always friendly, and the manager will always come over and say hello. The food is always delicious, and you come out feeling stuffed. I particularly like the chicken bunha.

We had to wait a long time to order and to get served. The food was reasonable but in the crowded restaurant only one couple appeared to be smoking, and this was enough to spoil my meal. I do not want to smell the aroma of cigarette I want to smell my meal. It is disgusting that in 2005 restaurant owners are so ignorant and the very small minority of customers even more so.

Emma
Myself and seven others went here on Friday night for the first time and we really enjoyed it. The service was great (maybe a little too fast!) and the food was really good. I had a lamb dhansak with mushroom rice and it was extremely tasty! Everyone enjoyed their meals, the portions were a decent size and the whole lot came to £108 (inc. drinks). Will definately be going back.

I ordered the chicken tikka, totally inedible, complained but to no avail, felt like I was sat in an aircraft hanger!!!?? Not recommended.

Craig
Can't agree I'm afraid. Been a few times and been unimpressed everytime. On last occasion veg in friend's veg curry was courtesy of a Capt Birds Eye mixed bag. I ordered dhansak but when it came it was all pineapple and no lentils. Suggetsed to waiter that there had been a mix up and he informed me that their Dhansak did'nt come with lentils? Relatively expensive for the modest portion sizes. Do yourself a favour and have a walk up the road to Nirmals if you can cope with the expense and having what Nirmal wants you to have instead of what you would like. Better still, go to Butlers.

Lee
Went for first time last night. We all found it very average food (1 really disliked it, although onion bhajis were heaven!!) service was hit and miss, although the price was reasonable

Jeremy
I have to disagree with the above review. I have been on a few occasions, and the food has varied from distinctly average to quite awful (I won't be going back again). On the last occasion, we discovered that all our dishes (which were supposed to be different) tasted identical (and not very nice - a bit like chicken in tomato soup). When we challenged the manager about this, he didn't argue at all, and said immediately he wouldn't charge us for them!

Ed
I've only been to Sahib's once and will never go again. I found my food sub-standard and service was average. The atmosphere was subdued. There are better places.

Adie
Portions size was small and the menu isn't very diverse. However the food that was served was good, average prices.
