What's
the grub like, then?
when i parked i expected the same as many other "family pubs".
but to my surprise it was realy quite good. sunday carvery was excellent
value, (and this is hard for me to say as i was served by the ex-blade
footballer geoff salmons)i had the beef carved off the bone of a
enormous joint . others in our party had burgers which were grease
ridden & disapointing, standard frozen chips but all the portions
were huge.also garnished with lots of salad.its obviously microwaved
pub grub but its quite good microwaved pub grub. went back some
days later in the week and the lunch time food was excellent. tortillas
are very highly recomended
What
did you drink?
we just had soft drinks these were ok
What's
the crowd like?
quite a varied mix, but ok. and a very good point is the way the
pub is laid out keeps the children & their families away from
the adults only section, but you could still hear them, shame!
And
the vibe?
sunday lunch very crowded we had to wait for a table. midweek much
better if you want a relaxing lunch.
Anything
else you'd like to say?
staff were very good working under extreme pressure on sunday .
good parking.
Value
for money?
we spent @£40 and as family pubs go it is very good, apparently
its not part of one of these "harvester " type chains,
and you can tell.

What's
the grub like, then?
Good selection and good quality, a particular favourite is the Cajun
Chicken sandwich, listed as a snack meal but a snack it certainly
is not
What
did you drink?
we just had soft drinks these were ok
What's
the crowd like?
good selection from the bar as is a free house and kept well
And
the vibe?
Mixed, great family orientated pub with play areas
Anything
else you'd like to say?
pleasant
Value
for money?
very good average cost of a meal out with drinks is approx £50
for a family of four

What
do you think of Pastures Lodge?
Brilliant food and plenty of choice - never had a bad pint there
yet. The clientele are pleasant and very helpful.
The food arrives quite quickley - me and the wife think its great
value at around £20 for two.

What's
the grub like, then?
Very poor. The 'butterflied chilli and ginger chiken breast' was
an insult to anyone that can read a menu. It was no more than a
frozen, supermarket breaded chicken escalope, served with an over
cooked jacket potatoe and a very sorry excuse for a side salad.
If this had been served with baked beans it could have come straight
from one of Jamie Olivers nightmare schools.
What's
the crowd like?
Typical working class Yorkshire folk
Anything
else you'd like to say?
This pup has really gone downhill and is now only any good for serving
up sandwiches
Value
for money?
Very poor value. Just under £20.00 for two main courses.

Joe I love Mexborough and the Pastures Lodge the food is excellent! :-)
Kate I thought the man that wrote this was very rude.

Its a good restaurant and he is just plain ignorant "Typicalk working class yorkshire folk" who does he think he is?
Dave Jones Having had numerous meals in the pastures lodge I am disapointed to say that things are going from bad to worse. The food is very poor and often a long wait is required from ordering. The last meal - chilli and ginger chicken was nothing more than a supermarket, frozen chicken escalope with an overcooked jacket potatoe. A side portion of baked beans would have been all that was required to turn this 'meal' into something that is served to kids at school every day. Never again.
Rach & Lora The food is good and so is the service. especially the jacket potatoes. highly recommended.
Jill Ransom I don't know what everyone is raving about? Very poor, overcooked, greasy and unappetising. Disinterested staff, not their fault, they are just part of the 'machine'
Jim Dixon Had to give it a try after reading the reviews but was very disappointed. Service was dire and although portions were large they were poor quality. The Bluebell Inn at Dodworth and Meadow Farm at Ecclesfield are both far better!
FRANK THE HEAD CHEF HERE DESERVES A MEDAL FOR RUNNING THAT KITCHEN ITS A WONDER HE HASN'T HAD A NEVOUS BREAKDOWN IT GETS SO BUSY IN THERE.
Nicola I have been here 3 or 4 times, enjoyed it all but one. The cajun chicken hot sandwich is absolutely delicious and really filling and fresh. The only time I didn't enjoy my meal was when I had vegetarian lasagne, the vegetables were mushed up and tastes like they had been marinaded in vinegar, not very nice at all. Luckily I had plenty of nice chips and a nice starter so didn't starve! Very good value for money.
jud and em we eat at the pastures on average about 4 times a week at various times of the day and night.
Excellent food, never had a problem with anything.
mandy moo things were better there when aunty val and geoff salmons ran the place, she kept the place in order. the staff are all misserable and not at all friendly and very undertrained.the 'waistcoats' or restaurant managers as they prefer to be called are not at all hands on and any complaints recieved are just sorted out with the offer of a free pudding. the food generally is ok but mostly microwaved bought in pot meals. There is a specials board but it leaves a lot to be desired.
Ian Earp I often frequent the Pastures on a Sunday afternoon. Seems a shame coooking when one can buy Sunday lunch for sunch good value. We often converse with celeb Paul shane or "Shaney Boy" to his close friends.
jo Go quiet regular and the foods properly best in area they do a lovely lasange with garlic bread. Never had a bad meal
IAN GREAT PUB BUT BRING BACK VAL ! ! !

Nicola The portion sizes at the pastures are huge, the cajun chicken is excellent and the food is always of a good standard.
Mandy I go quite regularly to the Pastures and i recommend their hot sandwiches (cajun Chicken or Beef) very filling value for money. you get heaps of chips of wedges and plenty of mixed salad with coleslaw. yummy!
GEMMA TRY THE MEDITERRANEAN CHICKEN!!!!!!
Neil Lewis I agree totaly, we went for a meal to the Pastures Lodge recently and it was excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly.
